Sora shifter broken!

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sora shifter broken!

Hey all, Just took the bike out for a bit of a ride around the area just to see if my new seat placement is good. Anywho went to shift, and noticed after I let go of the shifter it would only come back halfway! Not sure if it is somthing serious or what, but this bike is brand new (Just picked it up a few days ago) So tomorrow I am off to the bike shop that I purchased it from to see if they can fix it!

/Rant off!

Did you check the derailleur to see if the cable slipped? Might be something as simple as that.

Just looked and it seems to fine. Hope I didn't do any damage to it, although I don't see how I could.

Thanks for the reply!

Could be a cable slip or set-up problem as SD rider suggests. The shop should and will fix the probem for you. After this you can sit back and enjoy miles of trouble free cycling - I've found that Sora holds up rather well over the years.

Hope you get it sorted soon,
Cheers,

Ed

[edit] - Just saw your reply, never mind. Still, take it up with the shop first of all.

Thanks for the response, yeah I plan on going to the shop tomorrow, they are a good bunch of guys and I shouldn't have a problem with them fixing whatever may be wrong with it! Thanks again for the reply!

Ok, I just got back from my local shop. A piece of the shifter on the inside has broken. Not sure how it happend and the shop owner wasn't either. I know it wasn't broken when I purchased the bike so I am guessing it was just a faulty part.....shimano shimano!

Anywho the store there isn't sure if they have a replacement shifter (small shop here on Cape Cod) Anywho they said if they don't have it that they will get it from another shop....(sistershop is one town over) So I am hoping that they will get this all fixed so I will have some time to enjoy the nice weather we have finally gotten here on CC.

sorry to hear about your broken shifter...but it's good that the shop is doing the right thing by you....I have Sora/Tiagra on my bike and it's worked very well for me....I'm sure once they get it fixed you'll enjoy many trouble free miles.

'Sora shifter broken!'? The Sora (or Shimano) part in the title doesn't mean anything, this can happen with any shifter.

Might be not sure though. I have heard the name before so it may very well be!
