bar tape Question

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

bar tape Question

I have recently started riding and I love it. The only thing I can't sand right now is my bar tape. I have a trek 1500 and the bar tape is the stock bontrager stuff. It doesn't seem to stay put. Every ride it moves around. I am looking for better suggestions to replace the crap I have right now. Thanks.

Deda Elementi tape. Just enough padding and it feels great.

Even bad bar tape should stay put if wrapped properly. Maybe you should bring the bike back to the shop to have them rewrapped?

If you do change it, may as well find out right now that Cinelli cork bar tape puts you one step closer to heaven. Silva if you can't find the Cinelli. There's another brand that is similar, but I can't remember the name.

Thanks for the help, I am going to go for the Cinelli. I am not sure if the LBS would do it any better the second time, I think I will do it myself.

I like the Cinelli too. Its nice an thin but still provides just the right amount of comfort. Right now I am running Nashbar Gel stuff and its like I am gripping onto soup cans. Way too thick.

Just rewrap them. It's pretty easy really. Just make sure you keep some tension in the tape as you wrap.

Park Tool site has step by step instruction on this basic procedure.

Like you I recently got a bike and was loving it except for the bar tape. It kept coming unwrapped on the bottoms. I rewrapped it using the parktools website that was suggested in another thread on this forum. I reversed the direction of the tape at the hoods (as suggested) and so my hands naturally tighten the tape on both the drops and the tops and I haven't had any more problems. I'll be sure to look for the Cinelli when I wear the stock stuff out but right now ignorance is bliss.
