seatpost recommendation for Ti bike

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

seatpost recommendation for Ti bike

I have a Spectrum/Merlin Ti frame and want to pull off the carbon seatpost and put it on my fixie.

for the new seat post I was thinking Ti cause I love the way my Ti bike feels. Am I going to feel a difference when using a Ti seatpost vs an aluminum seatpost like a Thompson Masterpiece?

right now im looking at the Thompson and the USE Ti alien..

I need one with a clamp that I can dial in real well..

thoughts?

thank you!

I don't know that you would feel a significant difference IMHO.

Dean makes a Ti seatpost that's similar to Thomson in price. I have one that I've been running on my MTB for 12 or 13 years. Double-bolt clamp just like Thomson makes it really easy to dial.

https://www.deanbikes.com/components/components03.htm

Dunno if you'll feel anything but aesthetically it should be nice......

I think Thomson makes the best seatpost around, but I don't think you're going to notice much difference, either.

But not weight, the Dean is heavier. By about 50g vs the Elite and 80g vs the Masterpiece. Not an insignificant amount.

I came to the conclusion that the dean was real well liked by reading reviews and at $99 its significantly cheaper then the Moots or USE product. Ive contacted them about getting a hold of one. Im really not a fan of Aluminum and prefer longer rides. Im also a clyde so ill trade the feel for a little bit of weight. The 2004 version comes in at 230gms, not a huge deal to me..

You might be able to pick up a Campagnolo Record Ti seatpost on ebay. They don't make it anymore but I bought one for my LeMond about a year ago in excellent condition. It is a gorgeous seatpost and would look sweet on any unpainted titanium road bike.

I thought you were suppose to use Ti with Ti, otherwise the metals bond. Unless you put that Ti prep stuff on it.

The masterpiece is alu too. It's 40g lighter at almost twice the price with no real advantage.

I wouldn't count on a difference in "feel" by using a ti post. My requirements would be ease of adjustment and then weight. On both counts Thomson wins.

I have a Ti already already and hated the aluminum feel, I just didnt want to harden my Ti ride up with a aluminum post.. im using a carbon post right now.. velo 2.0..

there seems to be overwhelming support for the Thomson.. I think ill get the Elite, 40gms dont mean much when im involved in a lot of weight training and dont race..

thanks guys.. im sold on Thomson.. the reviews on MTR gave them a 4.88/5 with over 300+ reviewers.. pretty damn impressive!

and of course its black which will look better on my bike then unfinished Ti..

forget the rest, the best designed ti seatpost (possibly best designed seatpost period) is by eriksen cycles. it's simple light and brilliantly designed.

The question is, will the rest of your Ti bike be jealous

Thomson seatposts aren't just some Alu seatpost... they are God's gift to saddles and seat tubes, connecting them in perfect harmony .. and it will only enhance your Ti "feel", not take it away. Plus, the clamp adjustability is fantastic.... I just put one on my R3 and now I can get my saddle level which I couldn't do with the stock FSA SLK piece of ****.

Does the current have setback? Will the replacement have the same setback? Jus sayin - don't forget your fit in the swap.

I second the eriksen ...very good clamp design. Moots clamp sux ...luv ya Moots, but sorry, it does.

With the Thomson design, the load is supported by the clamp yoke and seatpost. With the ERicksen design, the entire load is supported by the adjusting bolts (in shear at that) Why do you think this is a good design?

because it's so light and easy to adjust. i probably wouldn't use it for dirt jumping but otherwise i highly doubt you could break it. besides that, i think cnc'd aluminum is crap.

It's light at the expense of strength (which is usually the trade off to be fair) I bet the thomson would easily outlast it with many miles... and at the price of the other you could buy 2 thomsons. Also, just 'cause you think something, it doesn't mean it's true.
