I can't comment on the Dura Ace hubs but I will say that the 240's are awesome. They are very light and durable. However, if you do manage to screw one of their products up they have what I believe to be the best customer service in the industry.

For ruggedness I would go with Mavic Aksium or Neuvation R28's as a complete wheelset.
As far as what you mentioned, 6 of one 1/2 dozen other, both very good products with DT SS flat spokes.

I am 6' 192lbs and use both Mavic and Neu on two different bikes, can't rip em apart.

The DTswiss hubs have a better freehub design, aside from that you can't really go wrong. I'd say 32H rear 3x with a 28H 3x front.

I've got a set of 240s hubs with 32 hole Mavic Reflex tubulars, 14/17 butted, 3x, 15 guage drive side.

I just built a set with Dura Ace hubs, Velocity Aerohead Front 28 hole, radial, 14/17.
Rear is Velocity Aerohead OC 32 hole, 3x drive side 15 guage, radial non drive side 14-17.

I think either set is bulletproof. I weigh about 180 depending if I took a good dump or not before the ride The 240s set is lighter, but then again it is a tubular. The important weight is on the outside and either set is great for that. The Velocity Aerohead is a pretty light clincher.

Both GREAT hubsets. You can't go wrong with either set. I picked up the Dura Ace hubset for less than $200 off ebay. The DT's will cost you a little more. The DT set cost about $150 more to build up at my LBS (I bought the DTs hubs from him)

It's basically which one you think will look nicer, functionally you can't go wrong.

Still as gorgeous. I bought a Fuji Newest 1.0 and had to return it. My heel kept hitting the curved chain stays. Only bike brand where this has happened. Shame, cause I like Fuji and the Team issue would have been next.

DA hubs will cost a bit less, will come with nice skewers, will probably be bulletproof; only downsides are that they will be a bit heavier (not too important unless you are racing) and will require periodic cleaning and regreasing (no big deal).

For rims, consider the DT rr1.2 for your application, and consider DT Competition spokes.

I don't have any experience with the DA hubs, but I do have the DT Swiss 240's. I like them a lot, but the rear has one issue worth mentioning - the cassette rotor is alloy, and galls very easily from carrying the cassette. It usually results in having to whack the cassette with a dead-blow hammer or something similar to get it off, and it is an annoyance. Once the cassette is off, you need to dress the gouges up with a flat file in order to be able to smoothly re-seat the cassette.

Just thought I'd mention it......

The Dura-Ace road hubs bearings are a lot like the Dura-Ace track bearings, which are unsealed free-ball bearings which are AWESOME! Probably the same if not better than the DT's. Even though they're heavier (not by much), I'd say get the D-A's because they're cheaper, have great bearings, and hub weight doesn't matter.

i've never ridden on dura-ace hubs, however, i have dt swiss 240's and 1.1 rims on my parlee, sachs and if and absolutely love them.

the 240 hubs are also on the super expensive reynolds carbon wheels and will soon be on the ultra light specialized wheelset. they are also on the reynolds kom wheelset...

with that said, shimano makes pretty good stuff also

cheers

I have dura-ace with 15000 miles and one rebuild. still buttery smooth. Shimano makes the best bearings in the business, hands down. If you look around, you should be able to find a build of dura ace hubs and open pro rims for ~300ish that'll weigh around 1600-1700 grams and be pretty damn bombproof yet repairable.

Shimano for reliability, DT for racing (but still reliable). I run a DA 7800 on my training wheelset, and a DT manufactured 240s internal hub on my Ritcheys. They are both really nice, but the Dura Ace feel smoother at high speed but the DT has a more reliable power transfer mechanism (clutch ratchet plate thing. Ingenious)

The DT Swiss 240s hubs are awesome. So smooth w/ little resistance. They are also very easy to maintain (w/ proper tools). They are quite durable too. I would go with 240s based on my personal experience but can't comment on the DA hubs.
