Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My Road bike for Now

Hello,

Well I just recently joined your forum and it is great to be here so far.....

I have only been riding for about 2 weeks now and have just been using this......

Now I hope this came out okay, so yesterday on my ride i am going up mayo lane, it is a rather large hill, so I have to be in the lowest gear for now, and at times have to get out of the saddle to continue on, but I have made it up this hill each time, but the first time I had to walk up the next hill on Mayo Lane. 40059.

But I have made it each time the last few times, I think I am up to riding daily, usually after work so it has been extremely hot here, PGA tourney, heat....

So yesterday, I added Goshen lane to my ride, the way I figure it I rode out Mayo 2.5 miles then returned to go out rose island road up to Goshen lane and out to maybe a few tenth of a mile from the end of it and then back, I did have to get off and walk up the third hill I came to on Goshen lane....

All of this was done after I went to test ride other road and cyclocross bikes, it sure did seem the cyclo cross bike was not as easy to go up hills than this cheap bike I have....

Then I had the shop throw a road bike front wheel on it and it seemed to do better.....

I really do not want to spend a great deal of money on a new bike, but feel that the one I have now will have me limited to not much more than I road yesterday which was 14+ miles.

My other ride includes going out mayo lane and then down 42 to rose Island road and then riding out in the area so I am sticking to at least 10 miles, man I am starting to feel good again, already down 15+ pounds and only have another 30 to go...

I am going to try and keep riding, so if you could buy a Fuji cyclo cross bike for a descent price and get another wheel set for road riding and maybe a crank to switch out, what type of crank would be best....

thanks for you assistance and inspiration. But I have made it each time the last few times, I think I am up to riding daily, usually after work so it has been extremely hot here, PGA tourney, heat....

Yes, thanks I saw that yesterday, but did not have any tools along, so I had planned on fixing it prior to riding it again....

This may be 'bike on road', but sure not a road bike.

yeah, but it works for the same purpose, I guess riding is riding.

i recently added this and will use it on the road as well...I am changing out the crank to a 50/34 and the rear cog to a 12/27. I only hope that i am able to climb hills okay with the compact crank set up, since the hills I have are rather steep..... But all in all it is about having a great time racing the deer that try to out run me to their chossen path to cross the roads and it has been fun... i am now up to 19 miles and these are rides that are up hill most of the way... I think they are helping me become more fit and this is great......

i might even try to find some trails in the area to ride on, since i am only doing this to lose the extra weight i have put on over the last 15 years.....

i just hope the bike i choose is a nice bike.....after riding it for a while and i get up to where i can ride over 30 miles in the hills i have choosen to start my training in then maybe i will join some group rides that seem to be more flat terrain riding....
