the bike industry is too unimaginative

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I am so tired of the superlatives in cycling products.

Ex: bontrager XXX lite, Easton SLX, Campy Ultratorque, The various plays on the word superlight (SL) and a tons of other superlatives to describe a product. How about coming up with a new name for goodness sake?

How about the good one- the cr*p one- and the one that looks good but is it worth it?

not worth it....but eventually the name sounds weird. I do understand where the OP is coming from. For example, 3TTT stem, meaning what exactly?

So that's what "SL" means. Never thought about it.

Bikes: 1 road bike (simple, light), 1 TT bike (could be more aero, could be lighter), 1 all-weather commuter and winter bike, 1 Monark 828E ergometer indoor bike

I like the way Shimano and Parktool name their components and tools respectively. Logical names without any fancy nonsense.

A couple of letters and then a few numbers. That's the way to do it.

Ah, like Sora, Tiagra, 105, Ultegra and Dura-Ace? Makes perfect sense to me.

No, not their group names, their component names! Big difference!

Like an XT rear derailer - "RD-M760".
