Best floor pump?

Whats the best medium - high range floor pump?

I have the low end Park Tool floor pump and the handle snapped off shaft and am in the market for a good pump that will last a long time.

I have the Giant floor pump I got from my LBS. Works great and has the dual nozzle on it (for Schrader and Presta valves) It cost me $40, a little steep I thought, but if it ever breaks I can go get it replaced with no hassle. It is very sturdy, has some weight to it, and seems very good quality.

i picked up this one a performance bike retail store and i love it so far. the nozzle fits both presta and schrader without adjusting anything.

I like my Park pump (the higher end PFP-4). It's a solid performer, easy to use, and the gauge reads consistently.

I saw one of these the other day, and thought it at least *looked* cool...

What do you mean best floor pump? Can anyone honestly say they have consistently relied on them all? I think most will say the one they have does the job of putting air into their tires. Get one and you'll say the same thing.

Serfas FMP 500. Works well for me, and comes in that
lovely shade of home depot orange.

I had a wrench force pump and had nothing but problems getting the head to seal correctly on the valve. I switched to the Specialized Air Comp and love it. The head goes on the valve very easily, pumps easily and pops right off with the release lever.

+1. I am surprised that the concept of a backup floor pump has not been discussed. I do mostly group rides so I could probably borrow one if mine malfunctioned. You are right, I would not be surprised if one broke right when I needed it.

Ditto on that.
What do you mean by BEST???
-Lightest?
-Smallest?
-Biggest?
-Most solid/heavy?
-Most precise guage?
-Least number of strokes necessary to acheive 120psi?
-Best high volume or Best high pressure?
-Best portability?
-Most long term reliability?
-Newest fashionable, coolest looking one?
-Oldest, proven, time-tested one?
-Replacement parts very easily available vs plain jane disposable- once broken?

So much for all these "Best"... threads...

Now, along similar, silly inquiries, does anyone know who the BEST WOMAN for a man is and where one can find her?
:D
Likewise, for the women... who/what is the best man?

another +1 for joe blow.

Best as in works efficiently (seals properly and fewest strokes to get to 120 psi) and robust (handle won't break after a year of use).

socalrider 08-25-07 08:37 AM

I have both Joe Blow and Pedros Prestige.. The pedros holds better at high pressure..

zefal d'elegance. absolutely the best! i also have a zefal hp that is 25 years old and is mounted to my c'dale six13 and still works perfectly and can pump to 120 lbs. i unequovically have to say that zefal knows pumps!

cat0020 08-25-07 08:50 AM

+1 for Zefal, the Husky HP floor pump that I have since 1992 still pumps up to 220+ psi. good for stretching those track tubular tires prior to glueing and after glue pump them up to 160 psi again to let the glue settle and dry.

The Schrader valve adapter is chained right onto the perminent presta pump head.

You need to up your expectations.

Silca will last 20+ years, high pressure for tubulars, if it breaks you can buy replacement parts instead of a replacement pump.

I was in the market for a new floor pump a couple of months ago and did some searches on the forum. The Topeak Joe Blow pumps seem to be liked by a lot of BF members. I bought the Sport model on sale from Performance and it's been a great pump - I'm very happy with it.

I also have a Zefal hp, over 20 years old. Heavy, solid, rugged, dependable.

Question: Where do other owners of this pump obtain the replacement black rubber grommet / gasket thingy (that fits & seals over the presta valves) once they've stretched & worn out?

You're leaving out some of the aspects that are important, at least to me:
- guage is accurage
- clamp mechanism is easy to attach, easy to remove, and doesn't leak
