Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Who's got an awesome wife?

My wife and I were out driving around today, and for no good reason I said 'Hey, wanna run by the bike shop?' 'Sure' she answered.

So, on we drove, and upon our arrival we noticed a big Labor Day Sale sign. Neat, I thought to myself. We walked in, the place was packed. I made my way casually back to the road bike racks, and there it was. A bike I had looked at several times before, perhaps with no small amount of saliva escaping my uncaring mouth. Too expensive, out of my price range. Oh well. But wait, its on sale. Its on sale-ness brings it into my price range. Carefully I made my way back to where my wife was checking out some of the women's jerseys that were on sale as well. I waited while she looked, biding my time. After she had seen the whole rack, we walked to the back, near the road bikes. Look at that, I said. Its on sale, and in my size. I knew what the response would be, mostly because I knew it was the right response. You can imagine, then, my shock when I heard 'Oh, lets ask about how their financing works.'

I may have peed myself a little bit at that point. Now, to make a long story of applying for a Trek credit card, finding a way to get the purchase total JUST high enough to qualify for 12 months no interest, and finding a way to fit the bike into the car, my beautiful new Trek 2100 is sitting across the room from me, newly cleaned of its many stickers, reflectors, and dork disc.

Seriously, I had no idea they were even having a sale. And a new bike certainly wasn't in our budget. My wife, however, being the most fantastic person in the universe, was totally behind it. I don't have any pics to post, maybe later. Anyway, just wanted to share my good day with everyone. I hope everyone's spouse is as fantastic as mine!

I've got an awesome wife. She give me enough "fun money" that I can save up and buy things I want. She just encourages me to keep on riding all I want, since she sees how much I enjoy it and how much good it's doing for my mid-life health.

Just about any rider who has a spouse that puts up with this hobby/recreation must be patient and understanding...

Cycling is expensive and time consuming...

I do have an awesome wife...

She gives me the time to ride and allows me to accumulate bling...

She drew the line on a PowerTap...

She had a whole bag of "NO" and every time I asked, she took one out...

But I had the "9 times" plan...

A child on average needs to ask for something nine times before an adult caves...

I have been asking for a while and her bag of "NO" is empty...

I will be getting a PowerTap...

I will say it again....I have an awesome wife...

I've got an awesome wife.

She rode her age the day after her birthday. I won't say how many miles that is but I post on the 50+ board and I've got plenty of age credits to spare.

She must be feeling guilty for something she did. Or didn't do.

Actually, she said the bike meant there was something she didn't have to do until it was paid off.... should I be worried?

My wife is awsome. She "convinced" me to buy my Fixie.
I just ordered $500 worth of stuff off of Pro Bike Kit & ebay this week without telling her. She won't feak out.

My wife is awesome. We met on campus because we both biked to school every day. She's hot. She doesn't bike much anymore, but she's not afraid to crank out 70 miles with no training whatsoever.
