Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Any Smith Optics users out there??

I broke my M-Frames the other day and I am looking to replace them with something else. A couple of things that I prefer in my road glasses 1) no bottom frame so that sweat can drip off of the bottom 2) I prefer glasses that I can take off and stick in my helment when climbing.

I'm looking at the Smith Optics Reactor Max and V-Ti glasses. Is anyone out there using them? If so, how flexible are the frames and can you stick them in your helmet vents?

Thanks,

My team is sponsored by Smith so some of have the Ti and the others have the Reactor. I am using the reactor and I love them. I have a LG helmet, Trek helmet and a UVEX helmet and you can hang them in the vents on all of them. They are very durrable and pretty scratch resistant. With the Reactors you can adjust the ear socks and the nose piece unlike the other version, so I like the adjustment a bit better. I highly reccommend them, but I guess I am partial.

I've had a pair of reactors for about three months now and really like them. No scratches or other problems yet and I have no difficulty sticking them in the vents of my monza.

I have Smiths (not sore of the model, but I think it's the Reactor), and I love 'em. And coming from a background in ski racing, I trust their quality: they've been in the ski goggle business for over three decades.

I have Reactor Max's and love them. The optics are fine, they look nice, and they definitely stay in place upside-down in my helmet (Bell Sweep). They flex enough to pop lenses in and out, but the frame material is relatively rigid. As for durability, when I first got them the frame seemed to me like it might break pretty easily, but check this out: I was hit by a car on my way home from a race with my Reactor Max's in my back jersey pocket. The skid across the road put the lens right against the pavement, under my full weight. This put a hole in my jersey and shaved some plastic off the bottom of the lens, but the frames are totally fine. I just bent the nosepiece back into place. Even the lenses are still serviceable, albeit a little jagged at the bottom edge. Wish my shoulder had fared as well in that little run-in.

I've got the Reactor Max too. Love em. Easy to change the lenses and they fit right into my Bell Ghisallo. The guy at the LBS said Smith has a great replacement policy too: If I break the lenses or frames, Smith will replace.
