Yes, either that or the dog will turn on the acid and fight for dominance.

I have NEVER seen or heard of that with a dog and a grown person (two dogs, yes). However, if the dog thinks you're attacking it (lunging, charging, or even going in its general direction) and not just satisfied with your established dominance (you're supposed to stand your ground until the dog averts its eyes then you can do the same), the dog's defense mechanism might kick in.

Yeah I understand that it's tricky with two dogs. I will say that as a dog owner, I can usually tell the intentions of a dog by its bark, and most of the time they're just trying to establish dominance. But I agree it is almost impossible for someone who doesn't recognize the barks to know if that's the case, or if the dog truly thinks you've trespassed into its territory.

I'm a dog owner and I have never heard any of the dog's I have owned bark like the one yesterday. He was out for blood. =P I think I'm going to contact animal control. Apparently I'm not the only one who has had an incident with this dog and the owner. I told a couple guys at my LBS and they said they've had problems with the dog as well. I guess one of them whacked it with a tire pump and since then its had a personal vendetta against cyclists. Either way, its not safe and I'm letting animal control know.

"The Puppies" are my dogs and friends. about 105 Lbs. each and work as a team. They take it very badly if someone tries to hurt me or any of their humans.

Isn't it in every state? And does anyone fallow this law? Walk down there streets of any city/town and I am sure you'll see at least one dog off a leash. No one fallows it because no one enforces it until it's too late.
