Gel eaters...I've a silly question

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Gel eaters...I've a silly question

What do you with the pak when you finish with it? Toss it? Put it in your jersey pocket?

I don't want sticky goopy gel all over my jersey and on my other paks, bars, phone, etc., but I don't want to litter either.

So what DO you do with it?

I roll it up so the sticky top part is in the center of the roll, fold it over and bite on it to keep the crease before sticking it back in my jersey pocket or bag. I can do all of it one handed in about 10 seconds. My other thought is that as long as I'm sticking it in an empty pocket, who cares about the stickiness because the jersey is going in the wash before it gets worn again.

Same, except I haven't done it one handed.

If you put it in an empty pocket, the only thing getting goopy is your sweaty jersey.

I just stuff it in my jersey pocket...

I do hate the stickiness on my fingers after a gel...You know those little annoyances when riding...

Get a gel bottle and solve the problem...

Will cost less in the long run...

+1 on not tossing them.

Here's an idea...

How about putting it between your quads and shorts? Eh?

I roll it up after I'm done, and stick it in one of my pockets...same with Clif bar wrappers.

My pockets are all littered up after a century LOL.

Why wouldn't you just empty your pockets at rest stops?

Just curious: are you serious? I am asking 'cause I'm not sure, that's all...

Trash to boot a tire with!
Don't litter. That is what jersey pockets are for. Being slightly sticky is nothing compared to the dirt and sweat I am covered with during a long ride.

Incidentally, I finally found a flavor I can stand. Hammer nutrition apple cinnamon. I was actually upset after I finished it. Not to mention the fact that I was left with GU packets. bleh

I once accidentally placed a discarded GU pack in the same pocket as my cell phone. Some leftover gel ended up inside my charger port rendering my phone useless since it couldn't charge anymore. Lesson learned.

I roll up next to one of the guys im riding with and steathily stick it in his pocket. Give em a slap on the back and give some words of encouragement. Works every time, well it worked once

Save your energy bar wrapper, and put the folded up gel packets in that.

Some people put the used gel packets under the elastic band of their shorts.

I as well use a hammer gel flask. Its holds 5 Gu packs. I wish Gu would get with the program and sell their product in bulk containers. It burns me to have to discard all that packaging in the landfill. Seems like it would take about a million years for it to break down. Not to mention that the per unit cost is higher than it needs to be with the packaging.

Regards,
Randy

If I have anything in my jersey pockets, I stuff them under the elastic in my shorts or tuck them into my sock. But I prefer the jersey pocket. There is no perfect solution.
