Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Campy QS = BS?

I have Campy shifters that feature "QS". They shift nice in the front, but I am new to Campy and am not sure if "QS" is truly a marked improvement over past levers?

Has anyone used both, and if so, is there a difference that is worthwhile?

On older campy to shift the FD required pushing the lever all the way, the trim feature was cool though especially on a triple.

Can you trim the fd with QS?

Yes, actually. I bunged up my 06 Veloce shifters in a crash (er, car-assisted-dismount) and just got them replaced with 07 Veloce shifters, which have the 'QS' (quick shift I'm guessing?)

The shifting action is lot lighter. The old shifters required more of a definite push on the thumb lever to get the shift to happen. The new thumb shifters just require a brush in comparison. The other shift lever (the one under the brake lever) is easier to shift as well, but not as noticeably so (it was also quite easy to shift on the older shifters).

Yes, the front derailler still has trim.

Sadly, no. At least not with Veloce. I think that Centaur+ still have that feature.

I have had both older Veloce and new Chorus. I honestly don't feel much difference. I presume some of that is simple adaptation but honestly I don't feel any difference between the two groups other then weight and appearance.

My new winter bike has 04 chorus on it and my race bike has 07 w/quick shift and I cant wait till my new stuff gets older. The older used campy stuff is "broken in" and shifts like butter. The new stuff takes more pressure to shift and I have been told this is the wearing in that campy owner love some much. Like fine wine they get better with age

Product differentiation as an incentive to purchase the higher end stuff. Otherwise no value added and most will/have opt for Veloce.

It was to make the mechanism simpler, reduce weight, and reduce cost (to compete with shimano and sram).

Best bang for the buck is Centaur with Chorus Shifters.

And yes, QS makes a difference. MY buddy had pre 07 record and I have 07 Record with QS. the shifts are lighter and require less throw. And you can convert all pre-07 left shifters to QS with the Campy part# EC-RE234 (QBP part# LD9920) and a simple rebuild (might as well change the g-springs while you are at it)

And possibly increase longevity.
