Peugot 10-Speed

I recently came into possesion of an old Peugot 10-Speed which appears at least, to be in fairly good condition. I'm wondering if I've stumbled onto a gem. How can I tell? Is it likely?

Thanks in advance!:)

PX-10s are considered collectible and might draw a decent price from a motivated buyer. Other Peugeot models, many of which look like a PX-10, are just another old "10-speed." 25-50$ at most. Sometimes you can find them for 10$. Doesn't mean it's not a nice bike. It probably is and will give you good service and has the feature of being ignored by 99% of the potential thieves who might see it.

PX-10s are popular enough with collectors that an internet search under that name will give you pretty decent info. If it's not a PX and you're still curious check out the group at Oldroads.com Vintage Lightweight discussion. People there will tell you about your bike,

If it has aluminum stuff on it, including rims and cranks, it's probably a PX or PY 10

Most likely, it has Simplex derailleurs, very plain lugs, chromed steel rims, Weinmann centre-pull calipers, one of those chromed spoke protectors behind the cogs, and those awful "brake extender" bars, ofthen known as "chicken bars", and it weighs somewhere over 25 lbs, right? If so, you have a UO-8 (or similar model) "gas-pipe" frame model, at the low-end of the scale. These bikes were never more than basic transport, were cheap when new, are as common as dirt, and can be found in nearly any thrift shop for $20. These aren't worth fixing, due to cheap construction, obsolete components, and thread incompatibilities with modern components.
If, on the other hand, it has fancy lugs, and a little square sticker which says "531" on the seat tube or the down tube, then, you have something worth keeping.

I remember a kid at schol having a Peugeot 10 speed, and that was 25 years ago!

How old is "old"?
