Problems with new bike and don't know what to do
Yesterday I bought my new bike, 2006 Fuji Roubaix Pro, and took it out for my first ride. I am new to cycling and just started in the spring. I had some extra cash from my summer job so i decided to upgrade from my trek 1000 before i started classes again. I bought the fuji from a new bike shop and was pleased with their help. I was able to switch the compact crack that was on the bike for a standard crank (Truvativ Elita) because I am 21 and in decent shape I felt the compact wasn't the best fit for my cycling style. I am on my first ride on my new bike and not 10 miles into the ride the crank arm actually came off the bottom bracket!!! I was going up a little hill and it just feel off. I was lucky that i was riding with my buddy who was able to unclip my shoe from my peddle and ride back and get his car to pick me up. First of all i was lucky that the crank arm didn't come off while i was out of the saddle and cycling hard or i would not have been able to keep my bike upright. I going back to the bike shop this week, any suggestions on what i should say/demand from them? I like the shop and don't want to burn any bridges, but I am pissed that they couldn't even put the crank on right. I don't know if i caused any damage to the crank or not but it probably wasn’t good for it. What do you guys suggest that i do? Any suggestions would be helpful, like i said, i am new to this and don't really know how to go about taking care of this.

Crank arms are one of the few things I ever have problems with. Bring it back to the shop and they'll take care of it. Just ask them to make sure it is tightened properly, with the proper torque, and maybe use a little loctite on the thread.

You take it back and shove it up their collective arses. Don't worry about 'burning bridges'. I wouldn't go back to a shop that's not capable of swapping a crank, regardless of how much i liked them.
