Short Shredding Toupe
Is is just me, or do Toupe saddles have a voracious appetite for shorts?
Mine seems to destroy the inner thigh of every pair of shorts I own.
What gives?

Is the plastic tip (where it meets the rest of the saddle) catching your bib? I ride pretty far back on mine, but occasionally when I have stopped and unclipped, then am starting again, it catches. No great answer for your problem, but if that is what the problem is, you could probably wrap over it with a loop of electrical tape or two. I caught my leg on mine a long time ago, and the tip came off. Specialized sent me another very fast, and I epoxied it on, so it stays. The saddle material on my two are very slick and hard, I don't see how that could be the problem. Good luck with it.

Probably because the last time I took a good look at it, you were the only person in the world who did a century with the toupe saddle pointed 15 degrees UPWARDS.

My specialized saddle bag used to have these 2 stupid metal decals that kept ripping out shorts, I pried those off.
You should cut the velcro strap to size and then burn to edges to seal it.
But I'm afraid you're impotent now...

I have the same problem, but I have a double wear pattern - two symmetric rough spots towards the front, and two towards the back and wider apart. And there is no way it's the seat bag's fault.

My problem was the velcro strip on the seat bag... so I repalced it with the Topeak one without the velcro strip and the problem went away. I'm glad because the Toupe was $$ and I wouldn't want to find out I wasted my $$ on it and not be able to use it.

and he's also right about trimming the velcro strap down to size, and then holding it over a lighter until it heats up and starts to melt, then let it cool and harden. that's why they come as long as the do...

You're not the only one.
Gary's issues was the metal decals on the actual saddle.

Had the same problem, but only on the inner thigh of my right leg. I couldn't figure it out until I tried to adjust my Timbuk2 seat pack during a ride for some reason and noticed that the velcro strap that goes around the seatpost had a little extra bit sticking out rubbing that exact spot on my right thigh on every downstroke. I loosened it up a bit so the extra flap didn't stick out and the problem was solved. For me it wasn't the saddle at all or even faulty form on the saddle, which I was beginning to suspect for lack of any better ideas. It was the pesky seat pack. I'd venture a guess you have the same issue.

I get some friction between my Pearls and my Toupe late in my rides to the point where there is an audible squeaking sound when I go from standing to seated. I've always attributed it to sweat building up down there. I was thinking if I could treat the saddle with something to keep it slick that may help. Anybody ever wax or polish their Toupe (the saddle not your hair piece)? What did you use? Thanks.

Something is abrading the shorts. Take a look and feel around when you're riding to see what it is.
My seat bag started to ruin a new pair of bib shorts. It was too wide in the front.
Changed it over to a much narrower one, and the problem was solved.
