Also the I think the rear derailer might be in a little bit different, but I am not sure – so don’t quote me on that one.

hmmmm that is the bike that I just ordered the 2004 Allez Elite.. but how did you get one so quick? My LBS which is very good nice folks said it would be 3 weeks or so before they come out? I went to the Specialized web site and it doesnt say anything about the 2004 Elites :-(
can I ask how much you paid?
I want mine now :-)

The big change for '04 is the inclusion of the Specialized Pave seatpost (a combination of carbon & elastomer - very trick). The handlebars get the new Specialized "Bar Phat" treatment. Same blue and white color scheme as last year but this year the frame comes in a 62cm as oppose to the 61cm of last year. The fork is now upgraded to a C4 (full carbon) same as on the S-Works bikes and on top of everything else the price is less than last years model. Oh yeah, and it's also reported to be slightly lighter than last year (probably the fork). I am also having the LBS put on a Shimano FlightDeck. I'm getting pretty excited just writing this... can't wait til it gets here. I'll post a picture when it does.

My LBS had an 04 Elite in already as well- priced at $1029. Specialized just had a big unveiling to all the dealers about two weeks ago. My LBS guy showed me his book of pre-release 04 bikes with photos of the entire line. There is some really trick stuff coming down the pike (mostly on the high end bikes). They have a road bike that the entire top half of the frame is carbon but nothing like you've ever seen. They are also getting into elastomer inserts big time... chain stays, frame, fork... along the same lines as the new Pave seatpost. It looks like the low to mid-range bikes haven't changed that much for 2004 except for the inclusion Pave seatpost (which I hear is very good...$99 MSRP) and graphics. Worth the weight unless you can secure a really good deal on an 03.

I saw an '04 one a month ago at a bike shop in Arvada, Colorado. It was easy to spot because of the elastimer in the carbon seatpost. I ended getting a '03 at the LBS that was closer to me. I also ended up paying $99 more than the 04' model.

I saw the '04 sport at my LBS. It was ok. It was only $700!! I don't think it was too great, but it's still an Allez, so I like it.

Thanks guys, I love the red zebra. The Black and White one is of course the Team Sapone or now Team Domina Vacanze colors. Very cool to see those guys on Specialized bikes...I don't think *I'll* wear the suits though!
I still haven't heard of any red zebra stripes in the U.S. I think I might have the only one or certianly only one of a very few! Cool!
Now if I could just find the striped bar tape in red and white or red and black....

SOme cool bikes. I'm not worthy!
I actually tried out a bike like Greekrider's, when I was looking to buy. But I have to say the Specialized just didn't suit me, I didn't like the way it handled. It was also somewhat more expensive. Even so, they are still pretty cool bikes.

I'll play.
Here's my Allez Comp at the top of Luz Ardiden, only a few hours before Lance's dramatic stage win in this year's Tour
Alas, a week-and-a-half after my return from France, my Allez and I were hit by a car
Bike is still in the shop, being assessed. I'm healing. But I miss my ride terribly.

Newbie here. I just wanted to say that I bought the Allez Elite 27 3 weeks ago and loving it. My LBS had the 02,03 and 04 models on the floor and opted for the newest Elite. The changes that I noticed was the Bar Phat, Painted Carbon Fork, Pave' seat post and cured chain stays. If you look at posting of the other 04 Elite you can see the curved chain stay. So far I have about 300 miles and counting on the bike and loving every minute of it. My old road bike which I still have is a 84 Peugeot Super Vitus 12 speed. still a fast bike but wanted the new shifting levers and lighter weight. No pics yet.

As you guys know, I have an '01 Sport and am building it. I have updated my component list, check it out!
I have always loved the S-Works E5 Road......... ABSOLUTELY amazing!!! So when I get into racing a little bit more, I want one!!! It only goes for $4,120, I mean if I start saving now, I can have it in like 5 years!!

I'm not that crazy about the new graphics either on the website but they look much better in person. I am really thrilled Specialized didn't change the graphics on the Allez Cr-Mos. As I mentioned earlier I just ordered an 04 Allez Comp Cr-Mo... should be in anyday now.
