krazy glue

is it safe to use krazy glue on my carbon frame? the "onix" logo on my orbea fell off and i'd like to stick it back on. thanks for the help guys!

The frame may spontaneously combust, but they usually just explode.
Wear goggles.

Krazy glue is pretty strong stuff, so it might eat away a bit of the clear coat. You might want to try something a bit less harsh.

It will not harm either the frame or logo - but it is not a very good choice either. Krazy glue is very poor at gap filling, i.e. to work well the two objects need to fit together perfectlylike cracked china etc. If you do use it make sure it is the gel type, this will fill small gaps and stay in place without running onto places you do not want it to be. A better choice is 5 min epoxy, it comes in a syringe type dispenser. Mix up a small batch on a piece of cardboard and with a tooth pic or wood match apply a few dabs and hold the logo in place with masking tape until the epoxy cures. With either adhesive it is best to prepair the surfaces to be joined by LIGHTLY sanding each with very fine sand paper, 400 grit or finer, or with Scotch brite pad. Just sand enough to take a shiny surface and make it dull, no more. Be sure to not sand anything the logo will not cover as it will ruin the finish.

use chewing gum.

Call or email Orbea and see what they think.

I had this happen to me last week. I sent an email to tech@orbea-usa.com on 9/11. I haven't heard back yet, but will post what they send me when they reply.

It took Trek a week to get back to my email, but you should have heard something by now.

Use some Zap glue. It is flexible, and won't hurt your frame.

Peel it off and save weight.....

Treefox 09-18-07 03:02 AM

I'm surprised it wasn't under the clearcoat...

Then they wouldn't be able to put some other sticker on it, and sell it as another brand.

i used shoe goo on my opal badges, worked great.

PDay 09-18-07 07:13 AM

Gorilla glue, possibly? I used the stuff at work and would say its stronger than crazy glue and a bit less harsh (at least if you get it on hands/paint, etc), but it does expand a lot, so a LITTLE dab will do ya.

Hi,

My brand new 2007 Orbea Onix badge fell off. I'm talking about the badge by the seatpost that says "Onix". Is there a recommended product I should use to glue this back on, or can you send me a new one to install?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Kevin

Ha ha - yeah, they're quick to get their branding back on!

Still curious why it wasn't under the clearcoat.

Back in the day, when I worked at a camping gear store, some fancy kevlar quick-pull lace things on my Salomon trail shoes broke - I asked for new ones, which they duly sent, along with fist-fulls of Salomon stickers, which being the crazy 19-year-old I was, subsequently ended up all over the place. Very wise of them. (this was, of course, before they were bought by Adidas and became crap)
