Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone familiar with the 2006 Fuji Roubaix SL ?

My trusty 'ol 2001 Fuji Roubaix developed a crack in the chain stay and must be replaced. I've been tossing around the idea of just buying a new frame and moving the components over to it. But that would cost a minumum of $500 plus labor... or I could buy a new bike althgether and maybe sell the old components on eBay or something.

I found a great deal on a Fuji Roubaix SL from a bike shop in Arizona. The bike has a MSRP of $2520 but is being sold for $1195. Apparently the shop bought a boatload of them as closeouts and is clearing them out at this ridiculous low price. My "be careful" radar is always on though, so I wonder if there is another reason these are being sold so cheaply. the specs look awesome though, take a look and let me know what you guys think...

This could be the answer to replacing my broken frames 2001 Roubaix.

I was just riding today with a guy on one of those. I can't vouch for the shop, but the bike itself is quite nice. The A6 aluminum frame on the '06 SL was Fuji's top level of Al frame, discontinued in '07, and the spec is good too, mostly Ultegra from what I remember. I've got an '07 Roubaix LTD, which I love, and the guy I was riding with liked his quite a bit too. Once again, I can't comment on the shop, but the bike itself is great.

I just purchased one in Houston. It is an awesome bike for the money. Three of us bought the bike for a friend and searched for the best deal we could find for the money. This is the bike we chose.

Red and Black
Ultegra and Richie WCS
Very light frame and overall setup ~16lbs

The only downside was the Alex wheelset...but wheels are easy to come by. Get a good 28F/32R wheelset and you will be set.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Although I do not own this particular model, I do own 2 Fujis, one very similar, a '05 Team. My new one is a '06 Team RC. I believe Fuji is the best value in bicycles, hands down.

Same frame as the 05 Team SL. Very good bike IMO. I love mine.

I just rode with a friend today who got a new frame from Fuji because his old frame cracked at the rear driveside dropout. Fuji apparently has a lifetime warranty on their frames. Check with Fuji before spending $$$ on a new bike.

Wow!
That sounds like a great deal on the SL!

But yeah, check what the frame warranty's like before you buy a new bike. Best case scenario is that you'll get a new frame and buy a new bike, and have a good bike and a bad weather bike

I called the shop and talked to the owner and he basically talked me out of the bike! Said that my weight of 200lbs was on the upper side of what the wheels would handle. WTF?

No matter, I bought a New 2003 Jamis Ecipse frame on eBay for $325 and will move my Roubaix components over, replacing anything that needs replacing. I'll end up with, hopefully, a more comfortable ride but probably a bit heavier than my old Roubaix.

I'm looking forward to my "new" ride.

The 2001 Roubaix only had a 3-year warranty on the frame accoring to my owners manual. that is unfortunate of course. I'll try calling Fuji anyway... can't believe they wouldn't offer some kind of something just for good will. Even my mechanic said that it's pretty uncommon to see this sort of crack, but not altogether unheard of.

Anyway, I've purchased a new 2003 Jamis Eclipse frame for $325 on eBay and will be moving my components from the Roubaix over to it.

I also saw this Motobecane bike on BikesDirect.com which looks just unbelievable for the money. Have you seen this??? https://tinyurl.com/2hokn8

It's hard to believe the price considering the components on this. Even if the frame is worthless, the components alone are worth the price. I've been told by a few people that the Motobecane frame comes out of the same factory that makes frames for Fuji... true?
