is it worth it?

to get a new group set and wheels for my 4 year old Allez with a slightly dented toptube? the 105 tripple group thats on it has seen about 7000 miles and is starting to show some signs of age. i have mismatched wheels at the moment too. an alex alx330 front with an open pro/ultegra rear and its really ghetto looking. ide go with an ultegra compact kit and a $500-ish wheelset if i decide to upgrade. but i figure for the money spent on parts and tools i could get something else.

my next "real" bike purchase will be a tri bike, so i wouldnt wanna spend a ton of money on a new roadie when thats not what i really want.

i guess what this really comes down to is: do i upgrade the allez and hope that the frame can hold up to my fat ass being on it for a couple more years. or do i get one of the BD CF roadies? just tyring to weigh out my options at the moment. if you guys can show me some bikes in the $1200-1400 neighborhood that i should look at that would be cool too.

7000 miles and it's showing its age?

Jeezus, at that rate I'd need a new groupset every 6 months. What have you been doing to your bike?

its a hand me down from my dad and he didnt take really great care of it. so i guess its not really all that mileage related then, just poor up-keep.

Yeah, that sounds pretty likely.

I reckon if you get it to a good bike shop and get them to give it a full service, it would make a huge difference, and save you the money of buying a new groupset.

Of course, Ultegra is a pretty good deal at the moment :D

If you decide to go the new route, take a look at the Scoot Speedster range, I have a 2007 S30 with 105, and couldn't be happier. They should be right around your price range, too. I'd avoid BD CF, just because I've only really heard bad things.

thanx for the advice. ill take it to my LBS next week and see what they think.

i want an 08 specialized transition expert really badly. but i think what ill end up doing is getting a Leader 735TT for my tri bike and a Leader 736R as my road bike. the cost of both would be very similar to just getting the transition alone.

ill just leave the allez alone (besides getting it checked out/tuned up) and keep it around as a beater bike that my friends can use.

sell your current bike and then buy something new before the prices go back up in the spring
