Keo and Pcadette Updates

Keo Pedal Test: 110 miles today, 4700 feet of vertical, hot spots on my feet: greatly diminshed. That was the major reason I went with Keos after 15 years on Speedplays. Zero hot spot on my right foot, the bad left foot hot spot was much more bearable. There are clearly other factors, but the Keos help quite a bit. I may try a thinner sock. That might satisfy some of those sock harpies. I actually prefer the feel of the Keos to the Speedplays after a week on them, I'm making the switch.

Pcadette: my HS freshman kid ran a 1.5 mile XC race today, and she knocked 3 minutes off her previous best time, from 13:26 to 10:16. That's a mile pace of under 7 minutes for a 13 year old girl. She actually was fast enough to factor into her team's victory in the meet, they take the top 5 times, she was 5th. Man was she psyched, and so were her team mates. That's an astonishing drop in time (the last race was within the last 3 weeks). I knew she'd get faster, but this exceeds my most optimistic hopes. Most importantly she really loves it. How great is that?

Pcad is a happy camper today, the Metsies notwithstanding.

Congratulations - at least you have one athlete in the family :)

I would indulge in the ultimate dopey cycling purchase, specialty cycling socks. God help me.

Even as a Sox fan who witnessed the 1986 nightmare, I hate to see the Metros implode like this. Last night was like watching an animal kill itself with a blunt object.

As a Mets fan who witnessed the Buckner affair in person @ Shea, your sentiments are gratefully accepted, but bafflingly magnanimous. You could never get that kind of sympathy from a NY fan, particularly for the Red Sox. Oh well.

The Mets are winning today. Too little too late? Stay tuned my little baseballvelo weenies.

well done to the patencadette.

does she also have a grey van **** and trash talk her competition? ;)

That's quite a jump. Have the doping trolls heard about this?

They make tall ones, ribbed for your pleasure.

;)

DScott 09-29-07 01:10 PM

Or, even taller, so you can bunch the tops down as needed.

Oh, and excellent results for the developing track weenie!

superdex 09-29-07 01:24 PM

Pcad, how many miles do you have on your insoles? might wanna change those out too...

wanders 09-29-07 01:46 PM

Congrats to pcadette. Was this done in racing flats? If you had anything to do with the selection of them, I can see them having dimpled carbon fiber in the construction.

Being from Chicago and taking some temporary enjoyment in the current Cubs (the goat will have its revenge), I also harbor permanet scars from 1969. So I have to take hope that the Mets will not pull through.

Congratulations to your offspring. 3 minutes in 3 weeks is quite impressive.

Buying new socks would stave off your inevitable descent into fredship for at least a few more years.

Point A: Thanks and correct.

Point B: Good suggestion. Better dead than Fred, I am shopping for cycling socks now. Sadly, the descent into Fredosity is as inevitable as DocRay's militant diatribes. On the other hand I was chatting with Dr. Bob, who is still racing rather successfully @ 63 years of age. Use or lose it weenies.

I was fredtastic myself today. Riding a real (i.e., steel) bike with toeclips that were not tightened with tennis shoes and socks that would have been right up your alley. And pulling a kid trailer. I still managed to hold off a few riders who were more fred than I, but then again they were probably on a recovery ride. I was also poserific in that I still wore my normal cycling shorts and jersey. Those pockets are just so darn useful.

Don't worry. You will soon be able to hide any miserable socks you do end up purchasing with tights and warmers.

Yes, Pcad will get away with the tube socks over the winter. But the shorts and the cameras will be out in the Spring, and I will be ready.

Hocam 09-29-07 03:08 PM

If only pcad could make such speed gains.

michaelmc 09-29-07 03:11 PM

Astonishing gains in speed? Smoke, meet fire, meet EPO.:D

Stay tuned. My kid is rather inspiring, particularly in this respect: the whole 'F this action I'm not fast enough' is no longer in my thinking whatsoever. You get as fast as you can get and the chips fall where they may. But the important thing is to be in the game, for more reasons that I can list here. Besides, if you don't get that part, it's not a problem for me. It's only a problem if I don't get that part.

Have you bought her racing spikes yet? They'r eless than 40 bucks...
