Re-Painting a Trek/Lemond?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Re-Painting a Trek/Lemond?

At some point down the road, I know I'll want to repaint my Lemond steelie. Does anyone know how that affects the lifetime frame warranty? I'm the original owner. Thanks!

I can't say for sure, but my instincts tell me your warranty would be kaput. Perhaps you could contact Lemond, and see if there is a painter they would allow you to use without losing your coverage.

You can get the bike repainted by Trek for a fee, however as someone who does material testing, paint is on there for more reasons then just to make the bike look pretty. Sometimes the protective coatings are really thin but effective. When they are damaged (sanding or sandblasting would count) corrosion can take over.
