No way man, I put on a Richard Simmons DVD and jam to the oldies on my fixed gear mounted on the CycleOps Fluid2. Way better than spinning.

I'm glad that I live in Southern California where the weather allows me to ride many days in the great outdoors. But even here, spinning is done. Maybe working people don't have the time or they live in a bike unfriendly area. Or maybe its mostly women who fear getting mugged on bikes by themselves.
I just hope we don't get to the point where the tail is wagging the dog. |
I bought a used spinning bike for $50. I changed the saddle and pedals to my liking.
I spin with a Spinervals MP3 (MP3 ripped from a my DVD). Let's me workout at night after the the kids are put to bed and when I don't/can't go ride outside. |

1997 or so. I'm not sure where you're going with this question... I was being facetious earlier if it wasn't clear.

I don't know I think I'd rather sit on a trainer and watch dvds from my netflix queue then go to a gym to do spinning.

I guess I could just spin on the trainer at home, but my apartment is tiny, and when I do a trainer workout I really stink up the place. Better to do it in spin class where everyone is stinky. :D |

The gym I spin at is across the street from my office, so it’s easy and convenient for me to get over there for 45 min to 1 hour at lunch every day.

I went to a spinning class once and didn't like it.
Perhaps my error was to compare it with cycling. Now I think that cycling and spinning are totally different - like running and swimming. Of course in both you exercise your legs, heart and lungs, but that's all. Give me cycling over spinning any day. |
There was an article written up in an online magazine or website out of New York. If I happen upon the link, I'll post it (or someone else knows what I'm referring to and will post it).
Anyway, the article was an interview with this one dude who lives in NYC and doesn't have the time or resources to get his bike out on the roads that often. So he spins. A lot. He races Cat 3... while only getting on the road bike maybe 2 times a week... he spins as his training, and kicks ass doing it. I'll try to find that link and post it - maybe someone else can help out? ::EDIT:: found the link: http://www.velocitynation.com/articl...?ID=174&CID=56 |

Most of them met one another at spinning classes. I'm the exception. Tonight I finally went to see what the fuss was all about. Some thoughts: 1. next time bring a bigger towel. ...anyone else do spinning in the 'off' season? http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...wel-Magnet.jpg I'm curious about spinning, but I'm not sure that I'd enjoy the company of the others. I'm pretty much a hermit. |
I've been going to spin class twice a week for about two years and I love it. Not so much for the training but because our small class is like a family. There are usually five or six regulars that know each other very well.
My coworkers used to give me a hard time for doing something that isn't considered "hardcore". The two that I talked into attending a class quickly changed their minds and that one class was enough. |

If you can't deal with a non-racing saddle for 10 minutes (or even 20-30), you need to go to a doctor. |
Went to my 2nd spinning class last night.
I thought I was taking it easier (at least compared to last week). Considering how my Vastus lateralis and Vastus medialis feel today, apparently that was not the case. |
Wussy.

You'll know it's going well if she shares her towel. |
I tried it for the first time last week.
I got to the class late and found I was at the back of a about 10 gorgeous girlies the only bloke apart from the spin class taker. The first time I tried to freewheel I nearly got thrown over the bars. jeez you only do that once . Its really tough. I managed 3/4 hour but it was lots of progressive sets and I am unfit. I will go again especially if I am unable to cycle locally due to the weather or darkness |

I'm going to my first spinning class in over 5 years tonight. Do people show up wearing their cycling shorts and jersey?

Lots of high resistance pedalling?
It could be due to the fact that I'm using an old pair of shoes with Looks cleats (my SPDs are back in the US). Could also be the out of the saddle exercises (there were some killers where we had to hold the bars by the stem, but keep our arms locked).
