Your "power" cadence
What is the cadence you use when accelerating uphill, or in other high-power situations?
I'm working on increasing mine from 70 to 90.

When I am accelerating on hills it is almost always out of the saddle,so I'm doing about 71-80 rpm.
If I accelerate whilst in the saddle its more like 95-100 rpm.
I find that if I want to lay down some explosive acceleration, slightly lower cadences work a lot better.

I try to climb near 100 rpm but when I accelerate I drop it and end up at around 80. When I started riding it was all about spinning but as I continue to learn more about my strength and weaknesses I find I climb more consistent under 100 rpm. I can hold my wattages a lot better for a lot longer without so many peaks and valleys.. Before.,, spinning above 110 would put me into difficulty much sooner and my rythem was just ,, to fast. To much lance note snuff enuff jan!!

Ideal for me:
Up hill attacks 80-90 flat 95+
An uphill attack is going to depend on alot of different variables though. If it is really steep and your already maxed out in say 39/25 at a cadence of 75 then just pedaling a little harder and getting to 78-80 might be enough to make that seperation.
fuzzthebee- Is that going uphill? I cant really think of a situation where your going to pedal that fast on a sustained climb with any sort of pitch unless you have a triple and a huge cassette.

My power cadence? 130. I can launch like a ****in' jet fighter, and I can keep the cadence for a long time. The weird thing is that when I'm putting in a lot of power, my knees are parallel to eachother. During regular riding, they are both at inward angles almost hitting the toptube.
I really wish that someone made a bike with a super narrow BB like Graham O'Bree's bike.

If it's just a small hill and I'm really blasting up it I'm usually spinning around 130. But if we're talking about any sort of sustained climb I end up spinning around 100-110 rpm.

I can ride for hours on flat ground but some gradiants on hills i just cant take it :-(. I broke both hips and they'll never be the same :-(. But I'm trying to strengthen them!!! uphills is usually a 60-70 since I can't really take it. I dont think it helps that I dont have clips either.

My constant speed cadence is around 100-110. Hill climbing, 70-90. Hard acceleration, full sprint, 130+

somebody explain to me why higher cadences are so cool that we have to brag about them on the internet.
I think most of you are lying. Any hill around here in my LOWEST gear, which is a compact and a 25 tooth cog, i'll be spinning about 80-85 rpm and putting out 300-ish watts and going maybe 10-12 mph. If you're spinning 130 up that same hill, you're going 20 mph. Unless I know your name, and it's danielson or simoni etc, you are NOT going up that hill at 20 mph.

It's really not a very good question that was originally asked. ``Uphill'' for people in my area is typically handled at high cadence and high speed so we can blast right over them. It also added in the ``high-power'' clause, which could mean anything. In a sprint, I'm sure a lot of people here would be easily buzzing 120 RPM.

Welcome to the Internet where people climb 10% grades for 3 miles in a 39x23 at 110 rpm!!!!

I like a low cadence for accelerating uphill but a higher cadence when sprinting on flat ground.

I know. If I was living four months ago and I heard someone say that, I'd doubt it too. But I've put a lot of focus on high cadence, and can hold high rpm's for pretty long periods of time. I'm not going to bother posting what I can do at the sake of making this thread sound like a Penis Competition. I'm not bragging, but what the Hell am I supposed to post? Three rpm?

It's not spinning at a high rate that seems out of this world, it is spinning at 130 on a climb!? or am I not understanding the OP? Simple science would prove this person is putting out a extremely high amount of power/ watts. And perhaps they do. It's odd how spinning is some kind of measure=ing stick for amny on forums. At the end of the day spinning is not always best or the most effecient use of power.
