Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The kid Ryanf aspires to be

There's this very nice high school 17 year old named Evan who comes out on the Nyack Ride. He's very fast. He rode that Silvermine TT 4 mins. faster than me, I think he was 2nd in his age group (he averaged over 24 mph over a relatively hilly course, I averaged a bit under 22.5mph). He got some ungodly high number on his SATs too. He's probably going to Dartmouth where he will be on the cycling team. This kid is a Cat 2 waiting to happen and no Road Nazi in him (yet). Vee are vorking on him. That TT time would have put 2nd in the 4/5s, at 17. Like I said he machs major schnell.

Nicest kid you'll ever meet, but he was talking my friggin ear off so much on the booger-flick going home today I dialed up the iPod and the Watts and dropped him like the punk he is. Pcad is no role model. On the other hand I did my best Nyack Ride in ten years. Evan was actually off the front with Luke, the former Turkish National Team member. Their successful escape was facilitated by the unresponsiveness of the peloton on an 80º October morning and the Pearl River Police Dept. Tongue Lashing we were forced to endure after yet another shocked police observation of the Nyack Ride Traffic Light Outlaws. That involved pulling over the ride and asking us 'what are you guys in a race?'

God what a dumb question. Thankfully there were no snappy retorts and we were only held up for 5 minutes. At 25mph that does afford the break an extra two mile gap. Oh well.

I watched a hily crit where this 16 year old kid broke away for the last 4 laps andabsolutely killed. There were a couple other breakaways that weren't even close. This was the 1/2/3's.

Taylor Phinney just won the elite track pursuit national championships.... he's 17 too. He's also kind of...well I won't go there.
