Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Memories of my first road bike...

I was a high school a Sophomore. It was the fall of 1982. I saved all summer to buy this beautiful bike I saw in the sears catalog. I rode the bike all through high school. Even though I got a car when I was 16, the bike was my real love. I grew up in rural NW Florida and it was 10 miles the "town". Even now I recall all the thinking I did and how much enjoyment time on the bike bought me on those "long" commutes. One of my great regrets was having that bike stolen some years later. I just took the sport back up after a couple decades off mostly because of the fond memories I have riding that old 10 speed. Here is what it was.
