Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thoughts on a Koobi Saddle

I have tried a Specialized Toupe for about 100 miles, and now a Fizike Aliante for about 900 miles. Neither provided a fit comfortable for 60+ mile rides. A friend has suggested a Koobi and I was hoping to get some feedback from past or present users before I make the purchase. I am not for or against, so please share your thoughts.

Thanks

Before you spend another $500 on saddles, are you sure your bike is fitted properly? Key to cycling comfort.

I just purchased an AU Enduro gel after riding a Selle Italia Max Flite Gel flow for the last few years. I decided to try a Koobi becase My current saddle is starting to fall apart. At first, the saddle seemed uncomfortable but after riding it a few times, I really like it.

I typically like flatter saddles with a cutout and this one fits the bill but you may need to ride it a bit before it feels right. There is a section on the Koobi web site that talks about their philosophy of how they make saddles which are comfortable for different people. It's worth reading through before you order.

Thanks for the feedback. The bike was fitted by a descent local shop. THe problem is really discomfort in my sit bones and taint. I think I may try the Koobi after all.

I love my Koobi. My friend gave me his Au Chrono (sp?) which is a few years old but it is holding up well. The back is relatively flat from side to side compared to the Aliante and offers more support than the Toupe. You might also want to try the Specialized Alias. I have it on my other bike and it feels really close to the Koobi.

I think Koobi has a return policy if you decide to send the saddle back. The only thing that I did not like was that they are considerably taller than most saddles so you will need to lower the seatpost half an inch.
