I can join the gang, hit by car
Well it was bound to happen. I was riding last night and I got struck. I should know much better than to ride on a weekend night in Texas. It started as a Lexus SUV was behind me honking and flashing its lights. The driver then proceeded to clip my rear wheel causing me to spin out. Several people stopped to help. I escaped with a black eye and missing most of the skin on my left elbow.
What truly confounds me is this person started by just f'ing with me. At some point they decided they wanted me dead?!!?!? Seriously, did this person not realize that he almost committed murder? It will always amaze how the sight of a bicycle insights rage in some people. I will never understand...

Were there any witnesses who got the license plate # of the alleged perpetrator of such a heinous act?

Nobody was able to get the license plate. Other than a description of a gold Lexus, I have no identification of the car. I should have filed a police report, but I did not considering I had no real and strong evidence on my side. I will say I am happy to be alive and/or not in a vegitative state. I wish I was able to know more about this person before he runs another cyclist off the road.

Make a police report. Do it now.
If you do not, and you ever find out who it was, you'll be screwed. Just call the cops. Report it.

We had a road rage incident in Jacksonville a couple years back where some idiot ran a woman off the road when he cut her off and slammed on his breaks. Her car flipped and he kept driving and no one had gotten the tag, only the car make, model and color. It took several months but he was found and prosecuted and is now serving several years in jail for vehicular manslaughter. He was a doctor out at the Mayo clinic and was miffed that the single mother of 2 or 3 was driving the speed limit while she was driving to her second job. This guy was late to a golf outing or something like that, but he had enough time to kill a woman didn't he.
I'd still report it cause you never know what might happen.

you really should file a police report. it probably wont lead to an arrest or anything, but its good for the police to have all of this stuff on file. if cyclists dont make police reports, the city wont know just how dangerous it is to be out there on the streets, and if they dont know how dangerous it is then they will never make it safer via bike lanes, bike paths, etc.

I just talked to the boys in blue, they aren't bad at all. I filed a report with vague details. Their reactions were very, very surprising. One said, "we'll try to get this ahole". I had no clue that cops in this town actually cared about cyclists. Totally shocking.

It shouldn't be shocking. Most cops want to catch the bad guys.
And they really like catching hit and runners.

Yeah it shouldn't be shocking. They are there to protect and serve. I just always feel nervous around them. Maybe it is because of the meth lab I have in my back room, kidding! kidding! kidding!

I honestly expect no results. But like others have said I hope this increases bicycle awareness. Stories like Tracey Sparling's are way too common sadly.
I am thinking an annual bike assault for awareness would be a great thing. Could somebody help me organize this?
Bike forums is just the place to do this thing. Let's band together, dammit!

this is unacceptable, if i ever saw this happen to a fellow cyclist i would get the license plate and a description of the driver if possible and call the police and tell them to send medical help not only to be safe but because that jackass son of a ***** would be paying for it.
I don't see why people have a problem with cyclist, do they push grandma out of the way in the supermarket too?
sorry to hear about this man and more than anything else like you said, good to be alive and moving

Launch a county-wide ad campaign and substitute an imaginary cyclist for yourself.
Describe what happened and have some heartstring-tugging music play while it concludes
"Sadly, Mr.____ never made it. The irresponsible anger on part of the driver killed him, leaving his wife and three children without a father nor a steady income. Please, treat fellow humans with respect - regardless their transportation choices."
I mean seriously if he/she saw that they'd feel so bad.

I was hit in the face with a beer can here in Gainesville and the police investigator used the license plate number I gave him to get a photo lineup for me. I couldn't decide between two guys in the photos, so the ****** never got prosecuted though.
You'd be surprised how seriously the police take these cases.

^With a 50/50 chance, why didn't you just guess? Either you successfully finger the guy, or you finger some random guy and he walks. Better than just letting him walk without trying.
