Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Between those two: Castelli, no question.

All brands considered, money no object: Craft or Assos

All brands considered, money is an object: Voler

I think I might try Craft's shorts...I've heard good things! I don't like the way PI's fit.

Don't forget Giordana... they make excellent stuff, in both the expensive and "relatively inexpensive compared to assos" categories

I have a pair of their winter bib knickers... I really like the chamois (it's the middle-range one), the fabric is exceedingly nice, and the construction quality is at the level of the Assos jacket I have. The next time I buy non-team shorts, they will for sure be Craft.

I was just looking at Craft's website and saw some bibs that look nice. Thanks!!!

I just picked up my first pair of PI bib shorts (Ultra's on sale for $44.50) and I wasn't expecting much for the price but I've been very, very happy with them. For the price, they fit very well, the quality is good and I can't complain. I was set on spending some mega $$$ on Sugoi's, Descente's or Giordana's but I'm happy with the PI Ultra's and I'm going to get another pair when they go back on super sale.

THis summer I bought PI Microsensors and Castelli Wickeds the same week, from Performance (sale), for about the same price ($100). The Castellis are cut much lower, such that off the bike you will show a little belly if you don't tug your shirt down. And I don't have a gut at all; the shorts are just cut like chaps. (Okay, a tiny gut. ) The PIs are padded more thickly and for me are more comfortable in the padding for long rides. I would buy more PI Microsensors rather than Castelli Wicked for the same price.

my $175 castelli cronos bib shorts are falling apart..the stitching is coming undone.... . my $50 PI's are holding up fine. Maybe I just have bad luck. I also find myself in the PI's more which means they get washed more. Probably because I've babied the castelli's.... yes i follow the proper care instructions...
The castelli material feels better but i'm not sure it's worth the money... I've been eyeballing some assos gear and if i get it and it falls apart... i'm done with the "expensive" stuff...

I also find the Castelli fit and feel better than PI or Performance but they cost more. Like Wx I have had problems with my Catelli Ergo stitching and I have had to do repairs after wearing them a few months while the Performance Ultra's I have only recently started to have some stitching problems after two years of wearing them 2-3 days a week and washing after each ride.

My Castelli are comfortable, but the material feels heavier than the PI's. I have PI aerosensors, but the stitching on the aerosensors can be kinda harsh on the chamois. 6 on one, half dozen on the other. They're both good for me with shortcomings.

My favorite are the Castelli's. I have 3 pair ranging from 89.00 to 129.00. They are all comfy.

My castelli bibs all seem to be falling apart prematurely i.e. stitching coming undone. Not worth the money IMOP. Cheesy stickers come off in short order. At these prices, would it kill em to stitch a logo on their bibs? Look elsewhere for better quality.
