mini pump or co2 pump??

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

mini pump or co2 pump??

I'm thinking about investing in a co2 pump. How reliable are they and can they get the tubes to over 110psi? Anyone have recommendations on co2 pumps? Things to look out for?? threaded cartridges vs. non-threaded?? 1 cartridge/tire?
thanks

CO2 without a doubt. One 16g cartridge should get 120 PSI for a road tire. I have always use threaded, TruFlo (just a the valve with a CO2)

If you ride by yourself... bring both a pump and a CO2 setup for a while. If you ride with friends who are happy to loan you a CO2 cartridge if you mess up, you can leave the pump at home. You can definitely get your pressure up high enough to finish out that ride with confidence.

How about a C02 system that doubles as a mini pump, in a pinch.

I only carry a Topeak MicroRocket.
It is a 55 gram micro pump, and it will reach 100 psi no problem (well, it does take about 400 strokes).
I ride a lot and just don't get flats that often (thank God, and my Conti 4000S tires).

I use the second wind mini CO2 pump. Flats on the road I just change the tube and use the pump to inflate to get it in position them use the CO2 to complete.

Another important reason to have a pump even if you use CO2, you need to inflate the flat tube, find the puncture and use that to make absolutely sure you got the debris out of your tire.

definitely. and it would just suck to have a half-filled tire because your CO2 ran out in any case. i picked up a road morph this summer and it's a great pump.
