Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Campy Cassettes - best bang for the buck?

I need to get a cassette for my new set of Campy wheels, and I wonder what's the best bang for the buck? The wheels are pretty light, around 1500g without tires.

Record, Chorus, Centaur, Veloce, Mirage?

IRD, Token, Miche?

IMO lighter is better, but more than $150 is repugnant.

What are the improvements from Veloce to Centaur to Chorus? and are the non-Campy options worth looking at?

Also, where are the deals?

Centaur gets my vote for the best bang for yo buck. ProBikeKit probably has the best deals on em.

Centaur.

Stay away from Miche Cassettes. Yeah they are cheap and they shift like it too. I also broke a tooth on a cog with minimal use

+ a zillion on Centaur. Same cog profile as Chorus and Record, but slightly heavier innards. The cost per gram saved gets pretty ridiculous with Campy as you move up the product line, but I think it's the highest for the Cassette.

Centaur. The weight difference is negligible compared to the Chorus. Price/Weight Ratio isn't justifiable after Centaur.

I have Centaur's that seem like a good value. I just got a Veloce too because it seems to be the only one with a 12-23 (except Record) I want the 18t since I hardly ever use the 25, but can run a 12-25 Centaur for hilly rides. Haven't tried the Veloce yet though.

Anyone have weights for a 13-29 in any grade? I like low gears, and my lard ass (aka aerobic fuel supply) will thank you.

^^Are you sure those are weights for 13-29...

I have a Record 13-29 that weighs 235g...

And a Centaur 13-29 that weighs 307g....

I will not admit I am a lard ass...

I will claim steep hills...

You can make the decision...

Oh sorry I was just posting claimed weight (Campy's) site....not 13-29 specific...

I am sure they are 11-23 or 11-21 weights...

Miche cassettes are generally well thought of. Mirage are the same price though. And cheap is good. It's a consumable...
