Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Steel Frame Bike That Starts With a "C"

I saw a couple of bikes today, steel frame and the company started with a "C".

I never heard of the company before but my LBS says that make very good steel frames. The frames are built very, very nice. I think that are an American company but I could be wrong.

The name had only 5 or 6 letters I believe.

Maybe somebody knows :-)

No, thats not it, what was very nice about this bike was the fact that the rear bracket had a very nice shape to it and almost encapsulated the ends of the skewer in a deep half arc.

From what I remember, the LBS said the frames were air hardend steel and rank up there with the best Reynolds.

Schill.

oh, no, wait -

Foo.

Do you want to tell us which one you realize it is or do you want to just let this thread go off for a couple pages?
Why don't you just call the LBS and ask them wtf was that steel bike you've been dreaming about is.
Then tell us. We'll be on the 7th page by then.

I have had it a couple of months. I bought it off Ebay and I'm still sorting the fit out (stem/bars are not quite right) but it was close enough to ride a century without any real issues. When I get it all built up the way I like I'll probably post some pix.

The frame is much stiffer, tracks better, and corners better than my Reynolds 853 Lemond Zurich (2002). The Lemond is a fine bike, but it does flex a bit under very hard sprinting.

I have a Curtlo. It was a nice riding bike until the frame broke. Turns out they didn't really braze the top tube/head tube lug and it came apart and the lug broke. The silver probably didn't flow evenly during the brazing process. When I contacted him he refused to fix it. No reason given. Basically they were *******s. I saved some money paid another frame builder to fix it and rode it without stickers until I could afford a new frame. I still have that frame in the garage. Unbelievably bad customer service and policy for a custom frame builder with his name on the down tube not to stand behind his work.
