Where's the weekend ride thread?

Notices
Road Cycling It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. -- Ernest Hemingway

Where's the weekend ride thread?

I guess I'll start my own.
The Ride 56mi 3,233ft ascent

That's where I'm going... sort of..

Been there

Top of last climb

Coming down the last climb I finally had the guts to just fly over the cattle guards... Took them fine going about 35mph...

No pics... yet. But it was a 15 mile (give or take) costumed jaunt through down town. Sort of a rolling Halloween party. I got to ride with Pee Wee Herman, The Milky Way, Lactose The Intolerant, and Snakes On A Plane.

112 miles essentially solo in 65F to 75 F temps, overcast, winds out of the North around 10 mph with gusts to around 20 mph, occasional "spitting" without any real rain. I hooked up with someone I knew (newbie Cat 5 racer) after 80 miles into it and rode with him most of the rest of the way. Can you tell it is "base mile" season?

I'm still 'crashed' - no riding for me yet. I'm hoping I'll be up for the club 'short ride' next weekend... But I've still got open wounds with dressings on from last weekend.

I decided to go up a couple canyons today.
Butterfield Canyon, then Rose Canyon.
I took a couple pics of the horrible road conditions on the Butterfield route.
It made coming down a little slow, too much debris, and too steep and narrow.
It was a great day though, with light winds and mild temps.
I ended up with 60 miles and 7700' of climbing.

Good ride today. After starting my new job, and losing allot of ride time, and reduced daylight, rain, and cold temps not helping the matter. I finally got a good ride in. The usual lots of hills, lots of fun. 56miles 18mph average speed, <55deg temps, lots of sunshine, and a good ride.

Did the Everglades Cycling Club Century today. 107 miles and 3 feet of climbing (this is flat Florida for god's sake!). I must admit those last 7 miles are the most painfull and slow miles I have done as far as I have had memory. It probably took me twice as long as the 20 miles before that. Up to the 85 mile mark, I had been averaging 24 MPH. The rest was a completely different story. The first 65 miles were very fast. We hooked up with a very fast moving group and just blasted through it. The next 20 miles were a little slower and had to do some of it solo as I got dropped from the group I was with. They were just going too fast for me.

The highlight of the day was certainly that I had my first crash ever. I am coming at mile 50 or so and see this woman weaving all over the road. I asked her if she was OK, and she start to tell me all angry how she ran out of water about 15 miles ago and she is dying of thirst. I tell her we have a rest stop coming up in less than 10 miles, but gave her one of my full water bottles with GU stuff in it. She took it, drank from it, hand it back to me, and barely even acknowledged the deed. I went on. She must have left with a group way before I left the rest stop because a few miles down the road I see her riding solo again weaving all over the place and what seemed like talking to herself. I passed her and catch up to a group just in front of her. The group slows down significantly for a couple of miles and she catches up, gets in the middle of the group, and start to chit chat with a few people. She was in front of me, turns to the left completely to talk to someone, front wheel slides in some road debri, and down she goes. Took me and 3 other people out. Torn up my Quick Step new jersey, gave me some road rash in my left leg and arm, a good size bruise in my left leg, and a painful right hand and left shoulder. The only thing to the bike was that my front tire rolled off the rim some. Deflated it, rolled it back in place (tubular), and inflated it back up. Thank good that was all. This just re-emphasized why I always ride solo. I wouldn't have minded to crash if it was for a legitimate reason, but not simply because of some idiot not paying attention. I am a bit upset still, so I am sorry for the lack of positive attitude.

Riding with a completely incompetent idiot, and riding solo are not the only 2 options.

..and they can be one and the same if you are me.

I rode my usual local training route. 30 miles and 70F. Gorgeous day.
If I had more time I would have made it a nice 70 miler.

This weekend rode up to Big Sur from San Luis Obispo, camped there, and rode back down on Sunday. 220 miles total for those two days, back to back centuries. Best ride of my life. Scenery on Highway 1 is amazing and we couldnt have asked for better weather. Averaged about 20mph both days.

True, but I don't have the time nor want to invest the time to find the non-idiots to ride with

And on a huge group ride you have no option: either you ride with (some) idiots or you ride alone. That is why I only do one per year and only for sentimental reasons, and I typically spend 90% of the ride solo.

I celebrated the first real day of fall weather in South Miami-Dade County today. I rode from Homestead to Kendall Drive and back via Krome Ave. Headwind out, tailwind home. 30 miles of finally, cool dry air. It was the best ride I've had in recent memory. Tropical Storm Noel brutalized me all last week with incredible headwinds going to work. She, he it, is gone now.

Two rides this weekend.
I wanted to ring out the new ZX3 that I put together during the week.
The first ride, Saturday, I road around the valley with one very steep climb and descent:

It ended up about 55 miles.
Today, I went out with my wife for a 62 mile ride and climbed some more:

The day turned out really nice. It was about 10 degrees warmer (60+ degrees), at Chalk Creek, than it was in the S.L.C valley. Chalk Creek is about 2000 feet higher, and S.L.C. has a bad inversion going. The really weird thing is, we didn't see another bicyclist the whole time on the Chalk Creek route, which is a very popular spot in the summer. The really good thing is that we only saw about 5 cars the whole time. Great route and great time of year to ride it.

No wind in Travis' observation so I took out the Cervelo P2C, did 2 laps around the flightline.. i love how smooth that ride is.. and it sure was a treat to not have to fight the wind.. ended up riding just over 23 miles in under an hr.. it was really fun.. then when i got back to the car i did a 10k run... too bad the heated base pool is only open half the year... i could have done an olympic distance today..
