I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, as I'm dealing with the same problem right now. Got a real nice wind breaker, but it puffs up like a parachute in even mild winds. Would love to find a bike specific jacket, good down to maybe 40 degrees, that doesn't cost a fortune.

I only wear a jacket under 50 degrees. Above that and I usually just wear a smartwool undershirt beneath my jersey.

I picked up a Giordana Race Tech jacket and so far its been great. Windproof, good fit, no extra bulk, room for a jersey underneath. I've really come to like Giordana's products and this jacket is no different.
STP has limited sizes available. I was able to pick it up during a sale for a really great price (much less than what its at now):

it over the fleece?
Or fleece over it? Seems like it would be the latter.
As to the Assos. Yikes. Multo dinero.

I picked up this Adidas LS Jersey from Performance. They had it on sale about 3 weeks ago and then had a 3 day %20 off coupon so I got it for like $55. This does a great job in the wind. The web site does not mention but this jersey also has Adidas Body Mapping and Formotion. I would buy another even at retail It works really well.

and one thing i learned last year is that you don't cut corners on bike clothing, a good winter jacket is worth every penny, and i'm sure the Assos one that botto recommended works great too...

Good grief. Layer under your jersey. I don't even get to a jacket until it's under 30f. Even then, it has to be a pretty miserable 30.

I use the Gore Phantom for fall and layer up from there as it gets colder. I like the Phantom as the sleeves unzip to make the jacket into a vest. Had it on the weekend in the low 50's with just a long sleeve skin shirt underneath and had to unzip it as I got to hot.

I'm sort of in the same boat- looking for a tight wind jacket for the winter. I came across this n BikeSomewhere, and it looks like exactly what I want:

Never bought from them, and the site and picture seem kinda sketchy, but seems like a lot of jacket for $90.

As a counterpoint, I have some ClimaWarm gear and love it. Compared the knee warmers with a friend's PIs that I borrowed and liked the Adidas gear much better.
It may not be the best on the market, but not all of us (myself and the OP included) can afford Assos.

Is the 851 too hot for 0-10C. I would prefer just a base and the 851 for these temps.
