Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

PBK: Too many cleats???

Hey everyone,

I recently bought a pair of LOOK Keo Classics on sale from PBK (one week shipping to WA!!!!!). I was expecting to receive a pair of grey cleats to complement the pedals, but instead I received THREE pairs of grey cleats! Is this normal or did I luck out? Also, where can I find a decent price for cleat protectors (PBK is out of stock)?

Another question, is there a difference between LOOK branded pedals and KEO ones (labeled on the side)? Different model year??? (Mine come with LOOK on the side).

TIA

vs.

I did. According to the invoice I paid $50 for everything (free shipping and no customs charge!)!

The only thing that isn't going for me on this purchase is that the pedals did not come in a, "LOOK pedal box" per se. Everything was just sealed in plastic bags (everything looks brand new too w/o any wear/markings).

Look is the brand, Keo is the line, Classic is the model. They are produced by look.

I know that, I was just wondering why LOOK would brand the "same" pedals differently (see above pics).

Instead of saying "KEO" on the side of my classic pedals, it is labeled as "LOOK."

What do you need cleat protectors for, you have three extra sets of cleats.

Uh, then, call them and see if they want them back?

I have four pairs of Keo Carbons CrMo, the all have Keo on the side, including the pair received last week. OTOH the pics on PBK site have one that has 'Look', so I don't know how to explain it.

I have ordered ALOT from them and always look forward to the " blue bag". I do need some cleat tho. hok me up!!! new 08' cleats actually have rubber on them so those of us with hard floors don't fall and break our neck!!

you've got the 2008 Look Keo pedals. same pedal, different decals. and good score on three sets of cleats. PBK is probably trying to make room for the new 2008 cleats that comes with rubber paddings to make them more walkable.

PBK does not send the manufacturer's boxes because they don't get them for most of the material they sell. Most of the stuff they sell is OEM material - intended by the manufacturer to be sold to bicycle manufaturers for installation on new bicycles, not sale to the public.

Thus the big discount.

Trade off - you usually don't get the nice box with the pretty designs.

I agree with the model year and cleat material change as the reason for the other moves. PBK is not like other shops...they are moving material and they will throw extra stuff in when it suits their needs.

Those extra cleats don't prevent you from sliding across a tiled floor.

If you wanted cleat covers with your Keo cleats, why didn't you just order the cleat + cover combination at PBK? Only a couple of bucks more.

Then again, 3 sets for price of 1 set cleats is a pretty good bargain.

It will cost almost as much to send them back across the pond.

Take that money you would have spent on postage and perhaps offer to purchase the cleats from PBK.

If you think you'll sleep better by doing this, then so be it. If you sleep well already, then just be a loyal PBK customer and it will all balance out.

PBK frequently adds items into shippments....on purpose. No point in trying to return anything. From what I have read about those who have tried the response is one of, "WTF" from PBK.

Enjoy the extra cleats.

Those are not the same pedals. Top pedal is a Look KEO Sprint you can see sprint in red above Look.

If you paid $50 and thought you were getting one set of cleats you're an idiot. I'd expect 3 sets for $50 too.

When I ordered my Keo Sprints maybe two months ago, I got the original Look box, complete with some sort of stupid DVD and all kinds of packaging. I guess it just depends.

First post states that he also bought the Look Keo Classic pedals as well. $50 for classic pedals and 3 pairs of cleats sounds good to me.

Yup. Sometimes I get items in the original packaging. Depends on what they have. Sometimes the manufacturers do not have any more OEM specific material on hand and are forced to ship end user packaged material in order to fill the order.

Costs the manufacturer more, but gets the order filled.
