Zero groupset???
Anyone ever hear of these?
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c.../b-1-9-1-b.jpg Just curious... It's just that I've never heard of these before - try getting service at an LBS!!! |
I had not actually heard of "Zero" itself, nor was I ever aware of any components, but here is their website: http://www.zerocomponents.com/index.html
Apparently, they are the distributor for Lightweight wheels in North America as well. Not a whole lot of info on the site, but worth a gander. |
I think I saw them at interbike. I did not however stop by as there didn't seem to be much buzz and I thought it looked awfully Shimano like. Now, with the disclaimer that I really don't know anything about them, it would be interesting if there were another good shifting setup out there.

Its Sampson/Sturmey Archer's group.
|
Interesting.
|
Why no DA compatibility?
|
whats the extra little lever/button thing on the shifter?

hum... i dont know how i feel about that.
|
^^^ Yep, just need to read the description in the picture more carefully.... Not sure about the lack of DA compatibility. Are Ultegra and DA that different? I didn't think so.
|
tada.. i am stupid as usual. I do really like the look of this SA/sampson/zero/whatever eles group

I could get a cost estimate for the group.... I'll post it later...

It says Shimano compatibility: Ultegra, 105... Why no Dura Ace compatibility? Aren't they functionally the same?

YES def price quote. is quality going to carry it?
|
looks cool.. id try it out after they work some bugs out and the price is right...
|
Agreed, I don't think I would get one immediately - even if it was cheap. No one seems to stock them and its reliability is totally unkown to most of the cycling community if not all.
|
i think im in love with the carbon design handle bar tape they have on the site.
|
He/they should have hidden the cables.

Just finished up the re-finish stage on my current build. Next step, Groupset acquisition after the holidays. |
The Sturmey Archer groupset is Sunrace Drive-N. Is there any connection to there Sampson gruppo?
|
Ok, just got some pics and a price quote:
Price: $274 http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...6/PICT3412.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...6/PICT3417.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...6/PICT3414.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...6/PICT3416.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...6/PICT3415.jpg She (contact) failed to mention the DA compatibility in her reply.... Oh well.... I could ask here again also about cables, braze on/clip on, or any other questions you have. Thanks, BE |
The decals look like stickers, didn't take the pic myself so no complaints please ;)

This groupset is appearing under several names, including Sampson. It's made in Taiwan and is being rebadged into at least four different names.
The advantage is price, but a French magazine tested the group and said it was good for entry level, but not near the quality of Campy or Shimano. They equated it with Sora and Mirage. they criticized the triggers as awkward and too complex. It is rebuidable. It's very difficult to come out with a new shifter, the trick is not to make a better shifter, but to avoid the plethora of patents by Campagnolo and Shimano. |
