Favorite 10s Chain - Campy

What's your chain of preference on a 10 speed Campy drivetrain?

I've used the KMC x10sl chain which shifted smoothly for the first 500 miles until it was excessively stretched at 1,500 miles. Currently using the SRAM 1090 chain which seems to be a little more durable. I'm still trying to find the most durable and compatible 10s Campy chain. Any suggestions?

I tried a Campy chain with a SuperLink and had a very annoying clunk. So bad I shelved the Campy group for now...

I ordered a KMC x10sl from PBK and hope that solves the problem...

Unfortunately, it has been 17 days since the order and no chain yet...

My Campy chain has 2000 miles on it and still looks/functions as new. Keeping it clean and lubed seems to help.

I put a KMC DX10SC on my newly-built Chorus-kitted bike, and it's the closest I've ever been to a silent drivetrain with instantaneous shifting.

WRT longevity, I have no idea, since I only have about 600 miles on the thing. But so far, so good!

So far I prefer Wippermann on Campy drivetrains. So far....

I treat chains like some women treat shoes.

I use them during sex and hate it when they're covered in ****.

Campy works for me - seems I get a new frame (and a new chain) before I wear out the chain I already have. My original 10s chain is still on the frame but I stopped using it after 3 years or so. I have two current bikes with their original campy chains, one is 2 years old and it's my primary bike with its original 10s chain. The other 1 year old and I think I rode it for 5 or 6 weeks. I just bought my new primary bike and it came with a kmc - I'll change it to a campy.

I have yet to replace one of my campy 10s cassettes (a couple are going on 6 years old or so) but to be honest I have maybe 6 or 7 so it isn't like I've been using just one.

I clean my chain somewhat regularly and use whatever is handy for lube - white lightning, the boeing lube (t-9?), wd-40, mobil 1, slick 50 spray, NAPA silicone spray (normally for car doors). if you keep your chain clean and lubed it'll treat you well.

one of the chains that was initially marketed as "lighter" (they were lighter because they were 4 links shorter so they weren't lighter for a given length of chain - they no longer make this claim) has super rough rollers - they'll kill your expensive campy cassettes. campy chains are nice to your cassette.

having the campy tool makes installing their chains stress free - in fact, it's a downright enjoyable and foolproof experience. if you're in northern ct and drop by with a campy 10s chain to install, i'll install it for you. bring me a DD coffee or something and i'll call it even.

nice tools make for easy chain installs,

I have about 3000 miles on my Record chain with no noticeable stretch... I have a KMC DX10sc waiting to replace it whenever the need should arise, but actually I'm very happy with the Record chain so far. The only reason I even considered using something else was that I was able to get the KMC for $15 instead of $50 for the Record... We'll see how it goes...

The new UT chains are better than my old Wippermans.
Cost more, but last longer, work better.
KMC makes Shimano's chains, and they just aren't very good.

i just switched from wipperman to campy and it's running so smooth. like my lbs mechanic asked me..."you spent all that dough on campy gear, why would you run some brand x chain?"
campy likes campy.

my sram chain works flawlessly.. never had a problem with it.

SRAM equipped pro teams all quietly ran Shimano chains this year. Something's up there.

Paniolo 10-31-07 11:44 AM

My Campy lasted forever without steaching. When I finally replaced it with KMC x10.93 it was quieter and shifted faster. It has a little under 1200 miles on it. When it goes I will probably try a UN campy chain. Hopefully it still has the longevity and will shift a little better.

Wippermann 1008 best chain for the money!

Because, having spent so much money on Campy gear, I can't afford a Campy chain? :D
