Plus this is the Motor City, other forms of transportation are discouraged.

Today, I was thinking man...I need a job. I thought hmm I can't drive, cutting lawns sucks--well what can I do that is interesting. What do you guys think of being a pizza delivery man on a bike. Hook up a trailer to hold the pizzas. Do you think the pizza shop would not go for this because it would be slower than a car? Or am I just stupid..?
Just a thought.

I know that Jimmy John's sandwiches are supportive of bike delivery. I'd think they'd be more receptive of the idea than a pizza joint.

In NYC all food is delivered by bike, but it rarely has to go more than a few blocks, so it's quick and profitable. Suburbs are a totally different story with the longer distances.

Yeah Jimmy John's too. That actually might be a better idea considering subs are smaller and I could get a rear rack or a back pack.

I deliver sandwiches + sides (chips, cookies, pickles, soda, etc) for Jimmy John's. It's a shop near a college campus, so that may be somewhere to look.
Money is good, especially when you show up on a rainy or piss cold day.
Oh, I always where my helmet when I am delivering inside buildings and stuff, bikers tend to get better tips.

I've been a pizza guy and I don't think there's anything short of intentional destruction that can screw a car up faster. I might even argue that being one constitutes such. The money kinda sucks, especially with the price of gas today. Maybe it was just me and the way I look, but for some reason people always wanted to give me beer and/or bong hits for a tip. Both are nice, but they don't exactly fill your gas tank.
That being said, go for it. At the very least they could give you the close or very large orders.
And let me know if it works, I need a job too.

"Not only are they little known, but the Dallas messengers say they are being denigrated and undercut by the well-organized, uniformed and motorized delivery services. Although the bicyclists offer an environmentally friendly service that they claim is up to twice as fast as cars, the motorized competition offers what Dallas business craves more than good service--image."

This is true--even Dallas has them. Although, my neighbor--who was one until 2 weeks ago--told me his company (Chase Couriers) axed the bike messenger position in favor of vehicle couriers. Apparently, it's more chic (as in better for the image) in this city to have things delivered by car (it's what the clients want). I think there around 12 bicycle couriers left in Dallas, down from 100 about 6 years ago. To quote the Dallas Observer:
"Not only are they little known, but the Dallas messengers say they are being denigrated and undercut by the well-organized, uniformed and motorized delivery services. Although the bicyclists offer an environmentally friendly service that they claim is up to twice as fast as cars, the motorized competition offers what Dallas business craves more than good service--image."

Detroit does not have bike messengers, Jesus I want to hurt you idiots.
They just have some pretend wannabes that try to act like a service.

Deep breaths. They're just ignorant. Well, OK, they're also idiots.
To the OP: are you west of Detroit? AA might have bike messengers, but if you can't drive anyway...

uh no definitely not true. i can say that especially of places like Brooklyn. Manhattan is one of the few places you'll go faster with a bike than a car

I should start a website saying that I service beautiful rich women.
BTW I am a marketer for an E.M.S, and medical courier service that serves Detroit and the suburbs, and if I suggested using bikes I would be laughed out of a job.
I am in downtown Detroit daily, and I have never seen an actual bike messenger.

well why don't you call the numbers up like tomorrow? did you even check the links? I'm sure you didn't and I'm amazed someone would make a fake bike courier site. what is the point? there isn't that much profit to be made from that kind of thing over an extended period of time...
All bike messengers don't have a certain look or uniform. How do you know whether you've seen one or not? I'm not saying they are plentiful but there has to be at least a few

A bike messenger service couldn't possibly be economically viable, and it would be pathetically inefficient.

Well, the question was not whether there is bike messengers in Detroit or not. At the age of 15 I am not too sure of how well that would go over with school. I was curious of the pizza delivery because that would probably have shorter shifts than a bike messenger and I wouldn't be in Detroit all day.

Bike couriers
Detroit small package express service selections include "Rush" service as well as Guaranteed "Double Rush" and Guaranteed in half the time "Tripple Rush" services. We also offer value based Deffered Service. In as little as 15 minutes within downtown Detroit, our "Bike Tripple Rush" delivery choice ensures your package picked up and delivered.
Plus the number this <cough> company <cough> uses is a western suburb number not even a Detroit phone number.
I bet its an industrious basement dweller that uses this website to justify his being broke to his parents.
I will call him and ask him, how good is his "TRIPPLE RUSH" service is.

brett call one of those companies, ask them what kind of shifts they have, if they are hiring, etc.
and to mr there are no messengers just call one of the damn companies that is all i have to say. i live in brooklyn and had no idea there were messengers in the borough but i found out they do this year when someone told me about the job and i've been living in brooklyn my whole life but never knew of their existence
mr comedian the company i work for has a pretty sh*tty website but it doesn't they are fake...the websites of like virtually all messenger companies in ny have sh*tty websites so what is your point?
