Your Sunday Ride (November 4, 2007)

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Your Sunday Ride (November 4, 2007)

Did you remember to set your clock back an hour in the US this morning or last night before you went to bed?

If so, then that extra hour of sleep should get you all refreshed for a beautiful fall ride. Rain throughout parts of New England and the northern states. Clear throughout most of the south and plains states. Cloudy in the southwest. Stop bickering about holes, mis-aligned dropouts, Ashley Olsen, cheap bikes, expensive parts, tubulars vs. clinchers, and go out and ride your damn bike!!!!!

No ride for me until 2:00 pm. Bittersweet and I on the Tandem. Next week will have some new parts to help the tandem lighten up. Will see if it makes us a little faster too.

After 70 miles yesterday, today I did a short ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway with my wife (she is just getting back into cycling after several years off the bike). It was mainly a recovery ride for me but she really enjoyed getting out on the bike and that made me happy.

I was planning on going out today because it is so nice out but the wind came up so I went to the gym instead.
I don't like wind specially on a hybrid bike. Maybe the wind will go down this evening & I can still get out for a short ride. Winter is just around the corner so the nice days are getting slimmer.

was a good hill day today, did some repeats on a new road they made. 2.3miles climb up one side @ about 15% then down and up the backside which is 3 miles at about 7% grade x 2 repeats.
Overall the entire ride was 26 miles and 3100ish ft of climbs and decents, now I can watch some football in peace

Did my ride on Saturday...too much work around the house to do today. Weather was better Saturday too.

38 solo miles. Still pretty decent weather for this time of year. About 54 and mostly sunny.

Still have some pretty good color left in some trees:

Path by the lake:

Don't want to ride off this road....actually, it's a pier. I thought it would be fun to ride out on it. Got some strange looks from the people fishing:

Taking a break:

Went out today since it was BEAUTIFUL in West Palm. I rode to Boynton where I planed to turn around. Instead I kept going to Boca. Then it got bad. I turned around and realized I was now going into the wind. At 35 I started to bonk, then I realized I didn't bring any food with me. I continued until mile 42 where I had to stop and call my SAG (wife). I had been trying to find a gas station, bagel shop, vending machine for miles but was in a spot on A1A without.

All in all one of the most enjoyable rides I've had in a while despite the bonk.

There was a bad part. I was riding down a stretch of A1A that is just in horrible shape so I was already cursing at every bump. A line of cars was coming, and a big white van pulls out to pass the line. Suddenly I'm going head on with him. I scream What the F***! right in his ear as he passes. (It was that close I had no time to react) Then I saw the cop car sitting 100 yards down the road. I was amazed that he didn't do anything so I rode up to ask him where he was looking at the time only to find an inflatable doll with a police cap on it, sitting right in front of a police station! Ridiculous man.

We needed a few items from the store so I decided to use the bike instead of driving since it isn't very far so I put a pannier on the bike & headed to the store.
Not much of a ride but it is better then getting in the car for such a short distance, plus they gave me the .5 cents for using my Pannier as my grocery bag.

Those are some really pretty pictures by the way.....

Solo...55 miles on the new group buy Pedalforce ZX3. The temperature rose a lot as I was riding and I was overdressed for that last 35. So it was not my fastest ride ever, but I did manage some nice views of LI sound....sorry no photos. I'm excited about the cold weather coming on and the challenges associated with it, even though I have to go through the process (again) of figuring out what clothes I need for different temps.
