Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mavic Ksyrium ES's @ Performance: $700/set

Colorado Cyclist had a similar deal, but they appear to be sold out. Performance's new catalog arrived in the mail today. The Ksyrium ES's are priced @ $775/set and there's a 10% off coupon in the catalog that would apply to that purchase (good on any purchase over $75). That brings the cost down to $697.50 plus shipping... Nice wheelset for that price.

Yes...good wheels at a good price. But if I bought them, I'd have to hunt down a bunch of other things to go with them...like a frame, group, socks, etc. It's a beastly cycle....

Looking at their website, the tubulars are significantly cheaper. I'm still debating on this. Who knows, I'll decide sometime. I'm actually thinking about one of these...

Just snagged some. I figured that I might be able to hold out for slightly less money but they might run out and I'd get more riding in on them this year if I got them now. What with team points, I got a pretty good deal.

Plus $69.75 in Team Performance credit (-$20.00 if you're not already a member).

Posted this a few days ago. Got my MAVIC ES's(set - front & back) from preformance @ $659.98 which is listed in November advertisement + 10% off, 10% points back, & no shipping since I sent them to local shop. Kysrium Edition Speciale Anniversaire with one red spoke(helium). Actual rim set cost was $596 with discount. These are closeout 2007's, shimano, tubulars.

Maybe I am confused. Normal retail is $1149. If someone knows or can explain how I can attach a photo of receipt & rims, then I will. Can send it via e-mail to someone also.

Yes, but they're not quite Zipps now, are they?

That's a great price but I've sunk too much into track parts lately, plus a set of used Zipps.

The Es is a lighter set (20 Grms) and looks better, but the SL's are nice too,I prefer the Es (limited edition) any day.

Lately, I've been in the other direction. A set of Mavic Open Sports with Formula track hubs. A set of Sun 27" rims with Formula track hubs. A set of Weinman 26" x 1 3/8(650A) rims with SA and Tiagra hubs. A set of Velocity Aeroheads 700C with Formula track hubs. All of these wheelsets are so much lighter, stronger and nicer than the ones they are replacing.

Can you get those Ksyriums with a Campy hub?

Word on the street is that the ES's are not as durable as the SL's. In either case, they are way overpriced in my view considering they are not particularly aero nore killer light.

Correct. Better everyday wheels however, and MUCH cheaper.

I'm pretty sure that they both have a claimed weight of 1485 grams. The only difference appears to be the color.

I've weighed mine, the ES wheels are about 80-100 grams lighter than my SLs.

So would you say that your scale is accurate, plus or minus 20 grams? I have a hard time believing you.
