Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

ever ride when you're all pissed off?

i do. and im wondering if you guys perform better when you're upset? i perform a hell of a lot better when im pissed off or upset over something/someone. i recently confessed to a friend that i have feelings for her and she pretty much told me she thinks of me as a brother....days before i confessed she told me she was interested in this one guy and i told her i was alright with the whole thing about her not being interested in me and that it was okay for her to tell me about the other dude. but the reason why i did all this was because i wanted to preserve the friendship with her. you swear i wanna here about the other dude. we're been close friends for the last 8 years and i would hate to have something like this be the end of it. now, all i feel is restlessness each day since the incident. i ride as hard as i can each ride, i take out my stress on dumb***** drivers and stupid ***** pedestrians. i ride up the steepest hills my city has to offer and i STILL do not feel any better. and everytime i see her chat status message and i see it says "Bubbly " (it's a song that the guy likes that she also likes) i get all pissed off again and i just need to be out riding to sorta help deal with the pain. everyday i think about it and i wish that someday that guy would take up cycling and compete against me and i would drop him so badly thanks to all the fuel that's being fed to the fire.

When I'm pissed off I tend to break the shift keys on my keyboard.

Not a good idea around traffic. Adrenaline will get you so far, then it will get you killed.

Effort and adrenaline are amazing, will cresting a hill, an SUV buzzed me (in a bike lane), I got really pissed off and tried to catch it to see the license plate. I hit 3bpm higher than my theoretical max HR.

riding angry is only good for about the first hour...

then, with fatigue sets in apathy and depression.

both REALLY suck for your riding performance.

man, dont get so screwed up over a girl. its all that fawning/friendship crap that is probably keeping her at bayanyway. be an *****hole- she'll probably respect you more. and if not, you no longer care.

...............................................................

Periods help. I find the post virtually unreadable and will not even attempt to do so.

The occasional incidents with cars passing too closely or a nice screaming match with a motorist usually results in a faster and more exhausting ride.

Here's some advice for the next girl you become "friends" with. Don't become friends. It can start out in a friendly sort of way (which it should), but you MUST make your intensions known EARLY in the relationship. DO NOT become "friends" with a girl you really want a romantic relationship with in the hopes that it will turn romantic later on. Women categorize male acquaintances in to two groups at a certain point in the relationship - friends, and potential lovers. If you let it be known early on that you want to be placed in the later category, it can then TURN IN TO a romantic relationship later on. If she places you in to the "friend" category, you are 99% likely to remain there for the duration of your relationship. Of course, not all women are exactly alike, but I am speaking in general terms, and if you keep this in mind NEXT TIME you will be able to tell early on whether to pursue it further or cut and run. You must take the bull by the horns with women, even if you appear to be somewhat of a prick in the process. Do not waste any more time with this one; she has placed you in the friend category and it is there you will stay - unless you can work a miracle. Sorry.

Some of our best rides (my wife and I) are when we are pissed...That could be pissed about work, or pissed at each other...Of course by the time we get home all is forgotten and we are laughing about it...

I find the riding to be theraputic in almost every situation. Sometimes I am just able to zone out and just go on auto pilot, other times, I just think and think and think. Either way, at the end of the ride, all seems better. Coom bye ya....mother Fuc*er!!

I remember once getting very upset about a smaller-than-expected bonus, and my ride on the trainer that night, I thought I was going to break the thing. Or ride off it and out the garage.

I'm rarely pissed for long. Bit of a self regulating process. Having said that, when my HR is north of 160 I'm mildly psychotic. A little road rage at the top of a hill would be especially bloody. Paging Mr. Hyde to the red courtesy phone...

i went riding in the rain about a month ago, slipped 5 miles in on a turn and tore an 8" gash in my right leg. rode back home and put soap on it. pain was so great that everything went black and i fell and regained conciousness 20 minutes later.

few hours after that i got so pissed off that i got cheated out of a good workout because of the stupid weather that i went out riding again despite my bloodied leg. it was raining harder at this point but i didnt give a sh#t. ended up setting a 20min power PR.

wooo =)

Riding while you're pissed is a great way to wrap yourself around a telephone pole or the bumper of a Volvo driving soccer mom. Taking it out on drivers and pedestrians is childish and will only result in you're feeling worse about it later. If you race while you're pissed you will make a dumb mistake and lose to someone weaker than you. Obviously, this doesn't apply to triathlons.

I think somebody's parents didn't teach him how to reconcile feelings. Shrink time.

Everyone channels anger differently. I would never direct my anger towards cars or allow it to F up my bike handling. That's why I'm still here after all these miles. Now stop, you're pissing me off.

When I'M pissed, I just go down to my workshop, put on some really loud, obnoxious music, turn off the lights, and sulk. Does nobody else understand the joys of a relly good sulk?

All this "working anger off" and "reconciling feelings". Feh! You guys piss me off. Where's my AC/DC disc?

For the OP - Forget it, pal. It's over. Tell her you're sorry, but apparently you CAN'T be "just friends". Say goodbye. Erase her contact info from your phone. Move on.
