Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What happened to my Armadillos?

Bought a set of Armadillo's about this time last year, and they've done great. But it's time to buy another set... and it looks like Specialized doesn't sell the same tires, they've cut weight.

Are the new tires as good? I don't care about weight for a training tire, and I'm wondering where they cut the weight from...

hmmm yeah that happens all too often these days; can't tell you how many times I've bought the perfect pair of shorts or gloves or the Avocet tires that I love but they don't make anymore. Sorry bout that. Next time you find a good product, stock up.

As to the Armadillos... don't know, sorry. I run 35c slicks on my cross bike for routine city / riding stuff, lots of gravel, and I've tried everything from expensive "expedition touring" to cheap Nashbars... and the Nashbars worked best. Till they changed 'em.

They're still >400 grams so their weight hasn't changed much. They still seem pretty hefty.

I had a pair of last years and have a pair of new ones now and i never realized they were lighter. Still my favorite tires, super tough, strong, and havent had a flat yet.
