To Chamois or Not to Chamois?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

To Chamois or Not to Chamois?

Hey all. Happy Turkey Day. So I'm in the process of trying to take advantage of Performance's 20% off deal today, and I'm looking to get a pair of tights, but I'm not sure of what style to get. Should I get ones w/ chamois or no chamois? What's the advantage of each? Thanks

Bal

If I were buying tights, I'd probably buy the chamois-less tights simply to wear over my bibs. But that's just me.

If you are on a ride, and your tights get too warm, and you have non-chamoised tights over regular bike shorts, you can take off the tights.

But if all you have are chamoised tights, then you have to choose between being too warm or looking like Winnie the Pooh.

just get the tights with the chamois for the really cold days when you know you're not going to take them off. If there's a day you think you're going to take them off, just get leg warmers.

No chamois for me. If it's so cold I'm not going to take the tights off, then it's cold enough that I will appreciate the extra layer of my shorts. Otherwise, I like the option of taking the tights off.

If you take your tights off mid-ride, where do you stash them or the remainder?

Just get a good pair of leg warmers and wear with your shorts.

No Chamois. On days when leg warmers alone won't get it, you will be thankful. Besides, bibs under tights keeps your junk warm. On really cold days I wear bibs, leg warmers and then tights over them.
