How to properly mount the Zero cleat?

Hello,

I just bought some Lake road bike shoes and the Zero cleat. My questions is about the cleat, which is shown here: http://www.speedplay.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.zero

How tight should the four black screws be? I made them quite tight and centered, but after I had finished my ride, I noticed that the metal plate had shifted. Should the plate be shifting or should it be fixed?

Thanks in advance.

Nothing should shift.

Yeah you will fark your knees pretty bad if you let that plate shift laterally beneath you. Its happened to me several times where I start to complain (in my head) of some knee soreness 100km into a ride and when I get home the cleat plate had shifted. I love my speedplays but you have to be fairly vigilant. They stress not to over tighten the plate screws but I have long since ignored that.

Tighten the barstids good and proper. Especially if you are throwing down sprints in a session.

Thanks guys. I tightened them down good now.

But not too tight. The mechanism won't work properly if you do. Speedplays are great, but you have to scrupulous about fitting them to shoes.

you need to shim them carefully to fit, then tighten well with thread lock. It also helps to use CF assembly paste between the plates -they will then never shift.

Carry a small screwdriver first ride just in case, stop to check.

And for crissakes, get the cleat protectors.
