Good tires
I'm looking for a good tire to get for a pair of Mavic ES. The tires I have now have an incredibly stiff bead and are extremely hard to remove and get back on, so I would prefer something a little softer. Suggestions?

P2race are all that they are trumped up to be.
I recently switched from Continentals which are notoriously hard riding,
to Michelin Pro2Race and the difference is night and day on the road.

Not a good reason to change tires imo. Harder to get on means harder to roll when you're riding. Harden the F up and get those suckers on there. If a tire was easy to get on, I'd be worried taking a 30+ mph corner with it!

+1 Great tires. I also use Velo Plugs which helped getting tires off my Mavics. Gave me just a little extra room that the rim tape was using.

+1 on the Michelin Pro Race 2's. If you ride where it's hilly, they'll inspire a lot of confidence in the downhills - they hook up really well on high speed switchbacks.
If you ride mostly on the flats other tires may suffice, but if you're bombing big downhills, go the with PR2's.
They're also light, supple, and just feel fast. The only downside is they tend to wear out rather quickly (often from sidewall cuts - I get about 2500 miles out of a rear tire, and somewhat more from the front...if it doesn't get cut first). But, that's no different than high performance car or motorcycle tires.

I'll echo the sentiments of others about the Michelin Pro2 Race tires. They are now the only tire I use on all my road bikes. The live up to the hype. Only downside....they wear a little faster then some other brands, but it's a small price to pay for possibly the best performing clincher tire on the market.

For your uses I run the Gatorskins ( I live where there's a lot of glass on the roads). Others have made solid suggestions. The CR1 is only good for 23c rubber, just so you know.

Agree: get rid of rimstrip and install Veloplugs.
Use a folding (kevlar bead) tire. Am able to install/remove Maxxis tires on our tandem without using tire tools 95% of the time. And at 135 lbs I'm not a big muscle guy!

PR2 are good tires. I have them on my Ksyrium ES wheels and I really like the way they roll and handle. They will go on the rims in the usual way, without levers. You aren't using a rim strip with your ES wheels, are you? I use a small length at the valve stem hole, and there is some thin plastic tape over the weld seam that came with the wheel, but that's it.

OP - Changing tires is no guarantee that they will go on/off easier. If you're shopping though, you can't do better than Michelin Pro2 Race.

Either PR2 or Conti 4000 GP (or 4000S). I've ridden lots of miles on both tires. My impressions are: PR2 - fast feeling in terms of straight line rolling, smooth but compliant ride feel and slightly on the firms side, and easier to mount when brand new; Conti 4000 - comfortable ride that doesn't feel as quick accelerating, better in corners, and harder to mount on rims initially but much easier for changing flats after they stretch.
