Wonderful Colnago - congrats! I'm really thinking of selling all my bikes and building one Master X-Light, plus one hybrid.

I don't have a steel but am lurking more and more at Jamis Eclipse and Quest. Anyone have or know about these frames/rigs? I have a CF that I find rather uncomfortable and have decided to make my next road bike one that has a higher comfort level for longer rides. Keep hearing steel is best for this.... Comments, pic's, opinions, hecklers???
Thanks,
Mike

My First Experience/Experiment with a road Bike
Wanted to go the cheapest route I could. 83 Miyata 100 converted to a single speed. Kept original crankset and just run it on 42 ring. Was Challenge Blue now Electric Current Red with White forks (First time sand blasting and painting as well). Steel Just looks so much better than anything else.

I haven't ridden ether one of them. But they look very good on paper. I have ridden 853 frames and love the feel. Both seem to good components and light overall (17-18 lbs).

My 1982 Trek 614 - 61 cm
This is my first of many Ebay finds. It's a very nice handling sport-touring bike and has become my winter/wet weather ride.

I have built up an early 2000's Jamis Eclipse for my wife. It is built out of Reynolds 853 with a Reynolds carbon fork. Very light and rides wonderfully. The Quest should be a little heaver but ride just as well.
As for more vintage steel bikes - I have a Columbus SP/SL Basso, a Raleigh Gran Sport 12 with Reynolds 531C and these are very nice but their racing geometries are very quick handling and not as comfortable as my Trek 614 Sports touring bike with Reynolds 531 DB in the main tubes. If comfort for longer rides is your goal I would lean more towards a sport touring bike like the steel Treks - I can ride mine all day long and with a well broken in Brooks Pro saddle it would have to qualify as the most comfortable bike I own with my Univega Gran Tourismo a close second. I also have a 2003 KHS flite 800 built with Reynolds 853. It's very light but it has a straight all carbon fork that makes it ride on the harsh side. I use this bike on fast club rides of under 40 miles.
What type of riding will you use this bike for and what kind of distances? Are you looking to buy a new or used steel steed?

thanks for all of your information. i average 3-4 rides per week anywhere from 25-40 miles based on my mood and how i'm feeling. i do not race and i'd rather not club ride, so i hit a1a in fort lauderdale or ride out west. i average about 18mph, weigh in at 215.... i want a new bike/frame and am simply contemplating steel for the comfort. maybe i should head toward a cf roubaix style bike (specialized) but i'm sort of old school and think a steel would be ver cool providing performance is not compromised. there's a builder in miami (unfortunately) called clemente that's making some nice frames, and i might begrudgingly head down there to just check him out. but the look of the jamis eclipse is me written all over it..... anyway check him out https://www.clementecycles.com/default.htm
thanks for any suggestions, mike

No pics on this computer, but I have both a lugged Land Shark with DA 8s and a Serotta Colorado (again, lugged) with mostly Chorus.
Looking to get a steel 'cross bike soon; probably be a "production handbuilt" frame like a Gunnar.
