I am currently in discussions with Anderson, Independent Fabrication, and Waterford about a custom steel sport touring / club ride bike. This is to add to my current non-carbon stable. My Lynskey Helix OS is for crazy, club rides that take on various aspects of crits. I have done centuries on it as well but I feel that I have to be alert and ready for the whole ride. My Lynskey R330 is my general all-around bike for my two weekend solo 60 mile training rides. Centuries on the R330 are more relaxing but slower than on the Helix OS. This new bike is for century and double century club rides - and for that elusive sub-4.5 hour century.
Slowly climbing up the learning curve regarding the various kinds of steel tubing - Columbus XCr, Reynolds 953, KVA MS2, and Waterford S3 - and the challenges in working with them and the various properties of each tube set for various parts of the bike - the front triangle consisting of the head tube, down tube, and seat tube could be stiffer while the rear triangle consisting of the seat stay and chain stay can be vertically compliant and a bit more flexible for comfort. Another recommendation is to use lugs instead of TIG wielding for better durability.
I realize that this might be a difficult question since these are not exactly common bikes - but any opinions on the tube sets and the lugging and the following bikes:
1) the Anderson Signature 953 (probably 953 front triangle and KVA MS2 or XCr rear triangle)
2) the Waterford ST-33 with 953 upgrade (they now recommend the KVA MS2 tube set because the 953 is quite hard to work with)
3) the IF Crown Jewel (Columbus XCr)

Posted this in the White Bikes thread a bit back, but here it is again -- my new best bud:
And a gratuitous glamour shot:

Steel custom Seven, carbon fork, A23 wheels, Shimano 105. Comfortable for distance, but absolutely no drivetrain flex when climbing (I am a bit of a masher), which was what I asked for. I don't have a bike scale, but by the completely unscientific method of comparing it to weights by doing bicep curls it's definitely under 20, though not by more than a pound or two.

Can't believe I never saw this thread.
Here's my 2009 Bianchi Imola. Hopefully my winter build this year will be a Surly Cross Check, so more to follow.

your wish, my order. nothing extra on it. frame didn't require "only C-record" things :-)
centaur-veloce mix, deda bar+stem, flite saddle (color doesn't match, I know)

I'm 98% complete in preparing my new-to-me 1978 Trek TX900 for the road.
Two years ago I sold my 1974 paramount, a bike I had owned since new. I also sold a Trek 400 that had become my frequently used sports bike for Chicago area rides. I had been searching for a suitable replacement when the TX900 was shown to me.
The TX900 was referred to me by the most experienced Trek collector I'll ever meet. It has everything I wanted in a C&V bike, including: Columbus tubing, 3x6 drivetrain, 700c wheels with Campy NR high flange hubs. The fact that the bike is an American brand and that the frame size is XXL is perfect for me.
One issue to solve is that the bike was in Portland, OR. A Facebook friend responded to my request and became the facilitator. The bike was inspected, purchased and delivered to a Portland area LBS for shipping. In 10 days from initial contact it was in Chicago.
The frame size is 65cm c-to-c by 60 c-to-c. The stand-over is snug but the reach from the saddle is perfect.

The drivetrain is a mixture of Shimano Dura-ace and Deore XT! The crankset is SR Apex with 52, 40 & 34t chainrings. The pedals are Suntour Superbe. The headset, brake levers, brakes and shifters are Dura Ace. The Hubs are High Flange Campagnolo NR 36 hole, the rims are Mavic . The odd-ball drivetrain must have been added to the frameset in stages. Chances are that the Dura Ace bits were installed on the frameset when the bike was new and the other items were added later. I consider the drivetrain to be ideal for hilly century rides, so it will remain.

I seem to have overlooked this picture posting opportunity
1979 Trek 930

1987 Trek 520

1981 Ron Stout (soon to be rebuilt with Super Record)

Mid 1980s Centurion Accordo (bad-weather bike)

Allan Wanta (work-in-progress)

1990 Serotta Colorado II

1982-83 Lotus Elite (fixed gear)

1989 Schwinn LeTour (fixed gear)

And there are others, but I figure y'all don't want to see track bikes and MTBs.

Wow! I just found this thread, and think it is the greatest bike thread ever! These are my kinds of bikes! Thanks for all the great pics, everyone!
Here's a quick pic of my '02 Lemond Buenos Aires with an 853 front triangle and, IIRC, 525 stays. In any case, I'm pretty sure it's not full 853, but I like the ride anyway!

^ had that 02 lemond buenos aires and it was a great all around bike. did some monster climbs with it and plenty of 50+ mph descents with it. haven't felt as comfy descending
since (with my last 2 bikes). basically gave the frame away for $50 to a friend that got it stolen. yes...i regret getting rid of the frame. it did make me a lifelong believer in steel tho =)

89' Trek 400. I painted the bicycle in white color last year, and swapped/removed some components (saddle, front derailleur, fenders, pedals)

This bike is older than I do!
