im an xc racer from the mountain biking forum, but i want to get into road biking and hopefully some racing. (it's soooo much fun)
anyway the guy has it listed at 600. assuming its in good condition it looks to be a good deal. he says it has about 2000 miles on it, is that alot? should i make him another offer?
p.s. any other bike suggestions are welcome, but im trying to get at least 105 for around this price range (600)

I need to remember to look at the screen when I type.
"Size is the most important thing. Don't buy it if it doesn't fit."
Haha. Sorry.
$600 isn't too bad of a deal, you'll save a lot over new. 105/Ultegra is generally very solid componentry, and Felt makes good frames. Go for it if it fits.

ya i need to be sure of the size. i think i am a 54cm but that was before i grew about an inch. (im in high school) but form what i understand, one frame size shouldn't be a huge deal right? especially if im still going to be growing.

Frame size is important, because it's the one thing that you can't really adjust. It determines a lot more than you think; the wrong frame size can lead to a lot of comfort issues. The thing about road biking is that you're more or less locked in one position for really long periods of time at once, which is what makes the fit of the equipment so much more important than in some other sports. And when in doubt - go smaller; in my opinion it's a little easier to make a small frame work than it is a too-large one.

My advice is just to make sure it fits in the first place. Myself, I like this little informal test in which you look down at your front hub while in your normal position on the hoods, with everything adjusted the way you like. If the hub appears in your line of sight 'behind' the handlebars, the bike is likely too big. If the handlebar blocks out the view of the hub or the hub appears slightly 'in front of' the handlebars, then you've got a pretty good fit.
In answer to your question, Felt frames are popular; you could probably get $200-300 or something. Just my guess.

look cool. buy it if you think it sizes up for you ok. you can do a search on the forums and find out what might be the base size frame for you and the rest of the adjustments could be done via seat post and stem. or go to competitivecyclist.com and use the fit calculator they have. may give you an idea at least. otherwise a great starter bike.
