Ex Floridiot moved to mountains of NC. Hate cold... but refuse to stop riding. Can anyone suggest a crazy warm... almost too warm jacket?

I can't wear my Voler thermal jacket in anything warmer than 27 degrees or I'll cook.

Hincapie also makes a killer thermal.

I can fit four 1L nalgene bottles in the pockets of my ice climbing jacket... Pretty deep. :)

As the OP requested, which jacket would you recommend?

i've got a PI Gavia Jacket that keeps me warm in (so far) 40F temps and dry. ask BikeWNC, he may be able to give you some suggestions.

Keeping your upper body warm in cold weather cycling doesn't require hi-tech expensive jackets. You simply need good quality undergarments (like Polartec) and intelligent layering. The tough part is keeping your toes and your willy warm. And the toes are really the ongoing challenge.

+1 If Pschwag says not to get something expensive there must be a reason. I personally feel that a fleecy layer or two is sufficient if not over sufficient if (and only if) you have a windproof layer over it.

UnderArmor is OK, no better than any of the Polartec stuff I've had from LL Bean for years. The key is varying weights of long sleeved zip T-necks for the temps and stuffable outer shell for when you start overheating - and then you can put the shell back on if you cool off. for my lower half I wear long underwear under regular a racing bib with leg warmers. That keeps me warm down to 15º. I will start adding an extra layer in the crotch area for sub 20º days or sub 30º windy days. To keep toes warm I have Sidi winter shoes and I use those toe warming packs ($1.50 each @ Gander Mtn).
