If I had my choice, Zipp 285s for crits, 360s for road racing. I don't have my choice, so I ride Velocity Deep-V and Aerohead.

I'd say there are 5 of my personal favorites for all around riding and racing. Only two of which I own, and absolutely love.
1. Rolf Prima Elan Aero. I own a set.
2. Rolf Prima Vigor.
3. AC-420's.
4. Niobium 30's.
5. And or course the ultra-affordable 1520g Xero XR-1's for everyday, beat 'em up, ride anywhere, on anything, without any worries, wheelset. If they get trashed, just get a new set for $200.
I also read the Spinergy Stealth PBO's are really slick, but have yet to ride a pair to make a real endorsement for them. I'd like to have a set though. The rest of the really ultra-lite stuff on the market is simply not economically viable for my lifestyle, and usually only had by pro-teams, or single people who have little else to spend their money on.

I own no carbon but for aluminum I like the Italians, Fiamme and Ambrosio. I tried French, Super Champion and Mavic, they were good. This winter I am building some Weinmann's, I'll let you know about the Swiss this spring.

Is the OP talking about wheels or rims? "Hoop" is a common term for "rim." I'm seeing a lot of wheel suggestions that are not available as loose rims.
