Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

895 metres. Heard a funny noise, stopped to check it out. Rim was cracked at 2 spokes, turned round at the 447.5 metre mark, rode home to sulk.

You didn't get out one of your other bicycles to ride?

0.0 for me too Bob.

I've also used up 2 of my 50 car driving days for the year.

The m/c comes out tommorrow.

Oh look, it's another idiot!

Newsflash, Mr. Panty-Waist: My 2 month old nephew can put in saddle time. My 93 year old grandmother can put in saddle time. Yet oddly, neither of them can ride 20 miles at a stretch. Hmm... but they're not weenies, right?

******bag.

Time is the more valid measure. Riding 1 hour with a 20 mph tail wind is not the same as riding 1 hour into a 20 mph headwind. Guess which is the better workout?

As of this morning, 13.23 miles, all commuting yesterday and today. In my defense, it was 11 degrees when I left this morning, 13 yesterday and something like 18 when I rode home last night. And it's supposed to snow / rain the next 6 days :-( Looks like my snowshoe miles will top my riding miles for a while (have about 4 of those so far this year).

+1
Take my commute home yesterday.
Over an hour to go 14 miles on a fat tired knobby mountain bike over compacted snow, snow drifts, and ice.
One heck of a workout.

Then we have the same route clear using a skinny tired fixed gear or my tarmac. Gee I wonder what is the better workout?

If time is a more valid measure ... then I'm the queen of cycling! I can spend more time on a bicycle (but cover less distance) than most people I know.

If time is your measure ... the slower you go, the better!

i like distance - time is not interesting to me by itself, plus then people start throwing in trainer miles.

97 km as of today's 42 km rain-ride, at an avg speed of about 25-27 km/h.

Zero outside, it's been snowing too much. I've done several hours on the trainer though.

32 miles. Only rode to and from college so far, so won't be putting any decent mileage on until the club ride this sunday (prays for good weather!)

Assuming your contention is that one of those 1 hour rides is a better workout than the other, clearly time is not the more valid measure

...of workout intensity, at least.

Time is the more valid measure of duration, just as mileage is the more valid measure of distance. Since the thread title specifically asks about mileage, and doesn't address duration or workout intensity, it seems silly to cloud the issue with those data points. At best it's an attempt to brag.

On the trainer these next few days as it's raining like crazy outside -- storm 1 of 3 predicted to come through.
